  1. how abou slapping everybody with the same shovel? on FairPlay v2 Reversed, Playfair Back Online · · Score: 0

Microsoft's WMA technology included DRM long time ago, still nobody was able to touch it up to now ... Apple releases the same kind of tehnology and gets busted in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! ... and not for the first time!

and consequently, what's everybody on /. doing?

bitching the whole day about the bad-quality software released by MS and the great, secure, stable and so on stuff that Apple makes ... simply amazing!

people ALWAYS want more free stuff .. doesn't matter how much they get, they just demand more ... and even more, it looks like the bigger the free-stuff-basket gets, the stronger is the demand for more free-stuff!

and i think my comparison was 100% relevant ... people have OS-es like Windows for 1/1000(or so) from an OS price 40 years ago, people have Linux for free, people have almost EVERY needed piece of software for free, but they still ask for more free software and for lower prices for comercial OS-es ... and the same is valid for ANY product out there ... i chose this OS comparison, because the price reduction scale is quite similar to that of airline tickets(if not bigger) ... and i can't see anything irrelevant about it!

and don't get me started about the name ... just try boasting to your friends that you own a "Sony Vaio Pocket VGF-AP1" .. they'll fell asleep before you finish spelling the damn thing!

You can cross the country for ~$200. That's cheap by any standard. Seriously. how can you say that airlines are overcharging and should be adding services for free. The idea that you can get from New York to LA in 6 hours. That is madness. Tell that to the pioneers that took 6 months and spent hundreds of dollars (in 1850's money) and they would shit a brick.

that's a totally irrelevant comparison ... i don't know exact prices, but OS-es probably costed hundreds of thousands of dollars just 40-50 years ago ... now Windows costs 1-200 $ and /. people still bitch about the price the whole day!!!

this whole thread is a waste of time ... everybody is laughing at MS just because is cool to do so on /.

when longhorn will appear in 2006(optimistically speaking) this would be a LESS_THAN_AVERAGE computer

    let's see:

dual-core CPU - average to high end market TODAY .. in 2006 this will be way under-average stuff

CPU running at 4 to 6GHz - today's high-end is 3,4ghz ... 4ghz is supposed to come by the end of THIS year... by 2006 this will be less than average

a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; average new computers of today come with 512MB ... it's quite sure by 2006 2GB will be the average

a terabyte of storage; high-end today is 300GB ... and the storage doubles(or more) every year => 1TB could easily be average in 2006

    1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port ; that's high-end today ... by 2006 it will surely be low-end

802.11g wireless link; same as above

a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today ; the new generation of graphic chips, schedulled for this summer/fall, already runs with almost double speed compared with the today high end ... 3X by 2006 will be less than average!
