I thing they did it because it is cheaper, Intel CPU's are faster (Core 2), more compatible with the rest of the industry (Run xp on it natively or in a VM without recompilation of instructions) thats my favorite, and more energy efficient,motherboards/chipsets are cheaper list goes on. Makes sense thats all.

As a person who uses Windows XP x64 at work everyday I have to disagree. It is every bit as stable as the 32bit counterpart if not more stable. It is based on the Windows 2003 Server codebase and is very reliable and responsive. Drivers are avaliable from most major hardware verndors for new stuff and some old stuff as well. 32 bit Apps work just fine from anywere you want to launch them from. They just have the seprate Program Files paths for convinience. I prefer the X64 version over the 32bit version any day of the week. Don't knock it till you try it.

Alot of people wait there whole life for something that never comes. This seems like one of those projects. SETI is not all useless but it should definitly have a lower priority than climate or helth. I can't see an ET signal benifiting mankind more than a cure for cancer even if SETI did find something.

  12. Bottom Line on Is SETI@home Where Your Cycles Belong? · · Score: -1, Redundant

SETI is a waste and I say that not because I don't belive in extra terestrial life but because all that computer power can be better used elsewhere. Even if SETI will find something most likely it will be very very questionable. I mean there is a better chance of finding and curing most deseses than finding ET. I would pick a cure for cancer or parkinsons over the ET version of Freinds any day.

Lets say I have a virgin install of windows XP original or even SP for that matter and no updates. Auto updates are toroghly disabled and the box is behind a firewall. How is it going to just shut itself off. pirates can simply just not update there computer. Yea I know security this and that but most people have no clue about it. Out of curiosity I installed my windows XP Pro that came with my HP laptop onto my freinds home made desktop with the laptops CD key and it activated automaticly without even calling microsoft and bullshitting them. I reinstalled and re activated my laptop until it refused to and I had to call MS just to activate my legit copy but on a whole new comp it just works for some reason. MS is really screwed up and eventually I hope they get some serious compitition from someone so they can clean their shit up properly. Apple has the best chance I hope they get 10% of the market share so this bullshit stops. I honestly think due to microsofts recent bullshit from all directions people will start buying macs or the more savy ones looking into linux.
