Generally, the packages are available for most distros but I would advise you to use gentoo since you can make it as lightweight as you want depending on your requirements, but gentoo requires you to know a thing or two already about linux.

yes 256 MB is small but this drive is in market since 2007.......and its not a falsh cache. The data stays there and visa uses it for fast boot up.
