"World's biggest hacker held By Rob Singh, Evening Standard 8 June 2005 A London man described as the..." Could it be any more copy and pasted? A little re-write or some formatting wouldn't hurt would it?
Surely it will cost waaaaaaaaaay more than that to come up with a serious entry? I know that the prize is not the only reward, but surely NASA could pony up a bit more of an incentive? It would be especially usefull for smaller teams without major financial backing behind them...
... almost every file I save in Open Office gets saved as a.doc/.xls rather than an OOo format (I can't even think of the file extensions of the top of my head, thats how infrequently I use them). If the file I am saving has to be sent to anyone, or opened on a machine other than my own, I have to go with Microsoft compatability, even though it annoys me intensly.
I see where you're coming from, but I think if your trying to generate awareness (and clicks, surely the purpose behind a banner) you do yourself no favours looking like something from a Geocities homepage...
...if they didn't look like the result of "My First Adventures in Photoshop". It's a good cause, and I support them wholeheartedly, but they could really do with a more professional edge...
I'm not a statistician, but i'd put money on more games being played on a TV than a monitor these days, what with the total world domination of Playstation and all...
That, my friend, is a prime example of America centric thinking. The TV signal in a good sized chunk of the world (Europe, Australia, parts of Asia) is whats known as PAL, rather than the US NTSC system.
While you are correct in saying that NTSC runs at slightly off 30 fps, PAL runs at 25, and the grandparent may well have been posting from somewhere outside of the US (crazy as it sounds, such places do exist!) and would therefore have been accurate.
Whats wrong with Boinc? I thought it did exactly the same thing, only with more OS's supported, and the familiar SETI name behind it can't hurt either... Why try and compete?
True Sonic may have not had much of a good run (no pun intended) in videogames recently, but he still has a fairly popular comic book, TV cartoon series and merchandising range, which probably makes him still on par with Mario in the pop culture stakes (here in the UK anyway).

and I like the theory behind it, but that stuff is not even that visualy interesting. Especially seeing as the auther freely admits to heavily photoshopping it before posting.
I'd be all for it. It's far from an ideal situation, but if we are going to have to live with battery considerations then anything that helps the consumer make an informed decison in that area is good in my books.
Well, if you look at almost all editions of the books (many of which will have been personally approved by Tolkien himself) they went with Green/Blue/Red 90% of the time... which to me seemed far more logical, for the reasons I stated above. But hey, like so many things, its just MHO
Now I know it's not the end of the world, they are still greats films and all, but this one thing just bugs me about the extended DVD's. I just can't get my head around the decision to make the boxes Green, Red then Blue.
Green for Fellowship is fine, it's the most nature centric of the trilogy, so it makes sense. To me though, The Two Towers predominant colour is blue, the film is full of old stone, dark forests, and rainy battles, it's a very cold film. Likewise, the color of ROTK is red. The film is full of fire, lava, blood, passion and anger. So why flip those two around?
I agree completely. I'm only part way through replacing all my old VHS's with DVD's, and now they tell me I have to upgrade again starting next year?
With films like Star Wars only just coming out on DVD, how do they expect the market to cope with being told that DVD is an 'old' technology all of a sudden?
I like a new technology as much as the next guy, and I know this is an incredibly unfashionable thing to say on slashdot, but they need to calm the hell down!

I'm not sure exactly who you mean by that, but I bet if I squinted hard enough i'd see an offensive comment between the lines...

Surely there is someone else out there with artistic sensibilities who gets irked by this?
