That, my friend, is a prime example of America centric thinking. The TV signal in a good sized chunk of the world (Europe, Australia, parts of Asia) is whats known as PAL, rather than the US NTSC system.

While you are correct in saying that NTSC runs at slightly off 30 fps, PAL runs at 25, and the grandparent may well have been posting from somewhere outside of the US (crazy as it sounds, such places do exist!) and would therefore have been accurate.

Now I know it's not the end of the world, they are still greats films and all, but this one thing just bugs me about the extended DVD's. I just can't get my head around the decision to make the boxes Green, Red then Blue.

Green for Fellowship is fine, it's the most nature centric of the trilogy, so it makes sense. To me though, The Two Towers predominant colour is blue, the film is full of old stone, dark forests, and rainy battles, it's a very cold film. Likewise, the color of ROTK is red. The film is full of fire, lava, blood, passion and anger. So why flip those two around?

I like a new technology as much as the next guy, and I know this is an incredibly unfashionable thing to say on slashdot, but they need to calm the hell down!
