As Dr. Elliot's ambassador, could you have him submit a complete, handwritten proof (the use of carets and monotype make the math feel sloppy, and I am a bit turned off by it, although I suppose a typed version with the traditional mathmatical symbols would be fine too) to my email address above. I will then perform a gedankenexperiment and forward my conclusions to Dr. E (as you endearingly call him). Under these terms will I attempt to disprove his theory using the laws of physics and mathematics.
Agreed. Anyone remember Dr. Timecube (Gene Ray)? His theory is that: (a) he is the wisest man in the world (b) anyone who doesn't believe him is evil (belief would require understanding, which in and of itself is a challenging goal... try reading his website sometime http://www.timecube.com/) (c) logical inconsistenscies are perfectly acceptable, so long as he is the proponent (after all, he _is_ the wisest man in the world).
There are two reasons to play nethack: it can run on pretty much any machine with a keyboard-type input device, and is turn based (great for when the boss walks in and you gotta look busy for a little bit, or if you have to use an onscreen keyboard, as you probably do). instead of dying due to a lack of speedy input, you can take as long as you need to between moves. in fact, i routinely leave nethack going while i go get a sandwich or take an unscheduled nap after a many hour session. i think it might be the perfect fit for you if you like rpgs. i still play it, despite it being 20 years old and pretty minimal on flashy graphics.
not dead, just forked. xfree86 is still in active development, but is currently under a feature freeze so they can concentrate on cleaning up the code (something xfree very much needs).
wow, games = schoolkid, eh? last i checked, i graduated from high school many years ago and play games as a way to burn off stress from the "real world". and everquest 2 doesn't run on a mac at all, and probably would never run as well as it does on my AMD64 laptop, purchased from the site you claim i can't afford.
I'd prefer bulky and capable of running most apps (see: games) over metrosexually slick any day. However, for much less than the cost of a powerbook, I could still pick up a slick and functional AMD64 laptop from such vendors as ibuypower.com, and have the best of all worlds (form, function, and cash to spare).
I have used software RAID-5 under linux for a year or so, and it has survived two hot-swapped spares, transferring of CD and DVD images, backups and restores of entire 120GB hard drives, etc. Transfer speeds are as good as a single physical drive, especially since each drive has its own channel (this may suffer a bit if you put both a master and a slave on each channel). i have done three OS re-installs and a few kernel upgrades without losing any data. My file server has only 512MB of ram, and an athlon 1800+, so it's not superpowered or anything, and my array has a terabyte of usable space, so it should be comparable to your situation. The only PITA part of software raid under linux is the initial array rebuild, which took 3 days (under load) to complete. However, during that time, the raid is still accessible, just not redundant.
Actually, I would have said "person" rather than "man" or "woman", but I don't think it's safe to debate pronoun usage with a woman such as yourself, as you seem to have taken my joke very seriously.
P.S. By "woman" I meant woman or man... I assume the purportedly non-sexist English language allows for this?
Leon, I will weep for you when people *do* start turning robberies into robbery-homicides in your area, and you lie there in bed and let them kill you. Then I will take a trip to the gun range to keep my skills sharp. I value human life, but I value my family's lives more than a criminal's. If that is immoral, so be it.
Does your company also smoke any meats? If they do, I would assume they use large facilities to do so. As such, you could store the affected machines in the smoker for a month and hope the new, aromatic smell replaces the stench (it should -- smoke is extremely effective at leaving a scent).
It could be better (chroot), but the conf files are clean and easy to work with. Also, it's nice to be able to get up to date by simply typing 'emerge sync && emerge apache'.
Are you seriously telling me you've never seen cool (as in nerdy) stuff on the History Channel? Wild West Tech, Modern Marvels, the history of prostitution (seriously, it was an academic perspective on the subject, and was rather interesting)... the list goes on. You just need to broaden your horizons a bit... wouldn't you rather learn a bit about everything than know everything about just one thing?

How many people read the whole thing, researched it, and modded it overrated?
that comment struck me as a poor mix of metaphor and porn references, but what do i know?
There is... it's called analog-to-analog re-encoding.
Microsoft purchases SysInternals this week; new Microsoft rootkit exposer available via Windows Update.
hey azreal, your sig is misspelled. s/regreet/regret
I do it all the time in EQ2; we call it two-boxing.

There would have to be worthwhile content for them to have that link.

According to this calculator, my entire life is worth $278.60. Wow, that's depressing.

It's a window-aware VNC app, I'm about to install it and see if it lives up to it's hype...

Honestly, I meant no ill will. Don't stay in your corner long. Good academic discussion is hard to come by these days.
Could you kindly provide me a map to your house? My coffers are running pretty dry...

What about a 5 woman business? Would Quasar still be enough?

unfortunately, everyone around here still calls SQL "ess-cue-ell" and GNU "gah-noo" yet somehow Windows 2000 gets the sporty name "wynn-too-kay" :(
