Exactly. If we were really paying for additional content and server bandwidth, then why the hell do they charging for the additional content we paid them to develop!?
Actually, a lot of PC games have demos, and, at least in my Wal-Mart, they have scanners that allow you to view In-Game footage of all of their games.

Yup, in a commercial sense, Adventure games are dead. In a freeware sense, however, it has never been easier to create your own adventure games. Sure, there may be another old-school, official Monkey Island, or King's Quest, but independent developers are churning out more high-quality AGS titles than ever, most of them completely free.
Check out www.gamehippo.com and www.the-underdogs.org (as mentioned before me) and download some of the excellent titles.
Not THAT much has changed since the original Doom, all FPSs are still the same basic game.
While it is true that MOST FPSs are exactly the same, there are a few that bend the genre. Take Rainbow Six, for example. Try strafing through the levels with a shotgun, and see what happens. Or Thief: The Dark Project. Excellent game, and it seriously broke the mold. Of course now you have all the Thief sequels, and Rainbow Six spinoffs like Ghost recon, and Splinter Cell...
There are plenty of Mondrains that would have worked, so why only one level? Also, it is rather easy, because you only have 4 ghosts, and the level is much larger than the normal Pac-Man level.
This is actually pretty ironic, because I just typed salshdot.org, instead of slashdot.org for the first time, and then I correct it, and this is the front page article.
Considering I visit every day (Just about) the odds that I would type it salshdot.org for the first time ever, and then this would be the front page article are pretty low
I think it would be a good idea to charge for the box/CD, and then charge maintenance. See, the content they develop they sell as expansion packs, so it doesn't make any sense that I should have to pay for that. I can see paying for server maintenance, seeing as that's the only way to go. I also understand the argument that $15 a month is a rather inexpensive price, and one I could see paying if that's what it took to keep their servers up, but the majority of the money you spend is just going to the fat cats at SOE. They are just being greedy.
Hmm... So I can't buy this game secondhand, unless it is sealed in its package? I mean, I can't even play single player unless I have an unregistered CD-Key. Once they stop selling this game, they are either going to give it away freeware, or there is going to be a huge demand for CD-Keys, since you can't use the same Key twice. Heh, if you bought the game, registered it, and returned it, they would have to unregister it by contacting Valve, or have a useless copy on their hands. I hope this doesn't become a trend...
I personally prefer Ancient Domains of Mystery. Then again, I started playing ADoM, and I find it is MUCH harder to memorize the controls of one Rougelike when you have another's controls memorized. www.adom.de
Can you imagine how much fun the retirement homes of the future will be? we're talking XBOX 7s in every room, game cabinets in the halls, and interesting music playing throughout the place. Boy, I cant wait till my kids throw me in the old folks home...
I think that a lot of Spam is actually unintentionally subscribed to. When I register my username and password on a website, it often asks if I would like to recieve occaisonal offers, get on their mailing list, and other things of that nature. I just say no (Which I think a lot of people fail to do) and if I do get sent unwanted email I unsubscribe and block the email. I dont get any Spam. None. Nada. It just doesnt happen. Its that simple.
I think some of the REALLY old keyboards dont have numpads (I have even seen seperate standalone numpads at garage sales). As for the FPS post, what about DOOM?? Sometimes people forget their roots...

YES!! ADoM is such a great game. Underappreciated, though.
I always call 'em Novelty Plastic Building Set Construction Pieces. "Legos," BAH!
