    My rural community in north Florida is getting city water. While it stops 2 km from my house the ground well site is there and more power poles and three phase current are being ran to the site. With the upgraded feeder lines my power no longer flickers with every lightning strike. If something is important the power will stay on.

    I guess those doctors who put me on disability were right. I have driven heavy equipment and farm trucks since I was 16. Two months ago I herded a 20 ft Uhaul down I-4 through Orlando, I just find it very stressful. Thank God for GPS.

    How about old people? At 62 my driving skills and vision have diminished. I hate trying to drive in traffic. My parents live 25 miles out in the country, driving themselves to the doctor's and supermarket is getting dangerous. In the US an aging rural population is in danger because of their isolation. We old people like our independence and fixed incomes make moving too expensive. Another joy of the twenty-first century.

    So if all districts are to be realigned to contain an even distribution of voters and I lean orange I should register purple to keep from getting shifted into a purple district to dilute my vote?

    We have a district like that in Florida. It snakes over 100 miles from Jacksonville to Orlando, collecting minorities as it goes, some places occupying only the center line of a highway to make it contiguous. How can a representative who lives in north Jacksonville represent someone who lives in central Florida? I guess it's only gerrymandering if the other party draws the lines.

    I used to be in that district until I realized I was voting my mailbox address, which is across the road from my house.

    In most states over 10% of the voters register as Independent. How do you gerrymander those to vote Republican? Democrats cluster in large cities. How do you evenly distribute their votes out into Republican districts on the other side of the state?

    I just read an article in one of the magazines I subscribe to, I think Bloomberg, about wealthy Chinese parents sending their children to American high schools to learn entrepreneurship. Some of the most popular choices now have a majority of Chines students, defeating the American immersion purpose.

    How many here have done dangerous jobs or been in the military? You just think, "Nah, nothing is going to happen to me." I have pulled stumps on an open platform tractor with the front wheels three feet in the air. One foot riding the clutch, one foot keeping the tractor straight by tapping the left or right brakes, one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on the throttle. Men take chances, many jobs require strength and endurance that women don't have.

    You have to change human nature first. There has always been The Man. War lord, king, feudal lord, big business, whatever. To take money from The Man you have to be stronger than him. Whoever that is than becomes The Man and still keeps most of the money.

    For millennia homosexuals were barely tolerated or even stoned. Today they are looked up to and have special rights. If being rich became as reviled as homosexuals once were than full socialism could work. Of course maybe people who want to be rich were born that way and we shouldn't discriminate against them.

    One word, freedom. Freedom to leave home when you want, freedom to drive direct to where you work and freedom to go elsewhere after work if you wish. Only with complex tracking and scheduling programs tracking every persons movements and forced high density housing could private transportation be eliminated.

    With time to kill I took my SS statement and calculated the return from investing my contribution in the DOW on the first trading day of the last 40 years. My one hundred forty thousand dollars would now be worth over six hundred fifty thousand. I did the same buying gold with the same return. Do the same with Apple stock, you might feel sick.

    Being this thread is going south, and that is where I'm at, why are you not protesting Florida? I need a photo ID to vote here. Is there any count of how many people do not pay taxes, receive no government assistance, have no permanent mailing address, are completely off the grid yet somehow qualify as a registered voter and manage to get to the polls every two years yet seem to disappear after that. Who are these people?

About twenty years ago I found an Emory Worldwide legal envelope (contract for an Orlando land purchase inside) in middle of my potato field in northeast Florida, miles from any paved road. It could only have fallen from a cargo jet, Lord knows where the rest of the container landed.
