Kindly actually calculate this obscene ration you are talking about? I'll be it's not anywhere near what you perceive, you are just overly sensitive to MS stories because of your bias. I'll bet that the facts will show an amazing small number of MS stories given their market share in the tech world.

I walk to the front, keep my belt and shoes on, and head directly for the the food court where I have sushi and beer, and then pre-board. If you hoi polloi want to ignore simple rules of flying without issues, more power to you. Me? I like to be educated on how to fly, and end up with no issues.

Simply because the FBI says they "cracked an iPhone 5c does not mean they actually did. More likely is they did not but knew that they would lose the case and didn't want to set a precedence. They knew very well that in all likelihood, the iPhone contained nothing. The terrorists used burner phone which they destroyed, why would they use a work issued phone at all for anything but work?

The FBI and city of San Bernadino both have a legal right to access the data, so why is it Apple's choice about if they will help them?

Sure, at the very least, San Bernardino has a "right" to the data on the phone. That is separate and different from saying that Apple is obligated to crack the phone for them.

These platitudes and pontifications are nothing more than "PR" from the FBI that knows very well they would have lost in a specular way that would have negatively colored EVERY SINGLE "next" case.

Fact is, the FBI whimpered away with their tail between their legs and is trying to make the best of it.

I thought we heard this "story" last month. The consensus seemed to be that it wasn't "government mass surveillance" that was causing people to self-censor, it was the prospect of being fired or failing to get a job because someone might be offended by something someone dropped on social media ten years ago.

No, I didn't read the article. But, One government's "surveillance" does not necessarily equate to another government's "surveillance". Additionally, what is the definition of "surveillance"? And what is the purpose , and what actions does it result in? These things vary throughout the world. It can be reasonably argued that governments need to be aware of what's going on with various groups within their societies.
