Frankly, I think it is a shame that anyone has to pose this as a question, and not a statement of fact. I thought Slashdot was news for nerds? Everyone here should know that codecs that compress audio/video more require more complex algorithms, and more CPU power to decode in "real time". And that DRM relies on some form on encryption, which would aslo be necessary to reverse to some base point which the digital-to-analog system can handle. These basics should be commonsense. No? As to the actual percentages . . . that is another issue.
I have a spare machine, but it is already taken up by FC5Test3 and I am not currently in the mood to dive into another disto myself. But I can hold my curiousity nolonger. What makes Ubuntu so user friendly? I take it that you have first hand knowledge.
Are you using unofficial repos with yum? If so, this is very far from RedHat's fault. There is zero reason for the fedora repos to give dependancy hell. If this does happen, then there really is a problem.
Hhmm. You must know something I don't. I have been using Fedora full time on servers, desktops, workstations and laptops (not all at one time) since Fedora Core 2. I currently have FC5Test3 installed on a spare machine. I can handly use Windows anymore since it lacks so man features that I have grown accustom too. (I know this has little to do with Fedora specifically).
I guess you missed a few news bulletings. RedHat has never sold a desktop/laptop product. The offered a free comunity supported version, but a lot of people in the community complained about too much RedHat control. That (and other issues) led to RedHat spinning of their desktop product to a more community driven product, with a different name: Fedora. Some like it, some don't. I personally like it.
Well, you are one of the lucky ones. Here is a scenario that happened to me last month: Windows started behaivng badly to the point where a reinstall was necessary (long story). I used the "Recovery Disk" which claimed it could and would do a safe resintall leaving all the programs and filesystem intact. Well it reinstalled Windows, left the system intact, but most (all ?) of the useful applications required indivdual reinstalling becuase they were useless without their registry keys. The.exe files were there, but they gave errors to the point of being unusable. This was on WinXP.
just run system-config-security level.
So there are 3 copyrights on the same word?
It SHOULD get them off Google index permanently.
How is this un-pc? And furthermore, so what?
Very well said. I couldn't agree more.

Sure you don't mean robots.txt ?

You are very brave my friend. Power to you.

I stand corrected. Still, this doesn't seem like a typical desktop distro.
The last time I ran into RPM hell of any sort was in FC2 I think. In FC4 I have no such problems. Maybe it is because I use yum.

Thanks for the warning: I don't really like firefox, at least when compared to Mozilla Suite/Seamonkey.
I did too. And I am not too sure that I was wrong to do so.

It almost doesn't happen enough for me in KDE. But I know that KDE allows me to configure this behavior, so I don't really mind.
To me it looked like a big PSP. Kinda like the (fake) one Walmart has on display.
Doesn't mean that the girl should have sued you either. Frankly the entire sueing thing is getting very much out of hand.
I have serious question: why doesn't OnStar and the likes come with a hardware switch that the system cannot go around?
Just make sure you have your passport handy.
Same result there too. I find this all rather interesting. Frankly, I find it to be cool.
Here is what will stop them: Vista + Intel + Trusted Computing + DRM
So dude, you got me thinking, and I did this test http://www.mental-health-matters.com/articles/arti cle.php?artID=463 and got 13 of the points down.
Any more information you could provide me? And yes, I am a computer programmer.
