It is more than just a cosmetic upgrade. It includes the braodband connections that the original PS2 required an add-on for. But it ain't worth buying a new one. Especially since it looks more and more likely that PS3 is coming out in Summer 05
Au contraire, mon frere. I am not a sheep nor am I young and inexperienced. The point of my post was to illicit discussion on the possiblity of change in the DCMA. This being/. I though it would be interesting to engage in a discussion regarding digital rights management and possible changes to pertaining legislation.
You, however, seem to think that this site is all about partisan knee-jerk repsonse and hackery. And if you you think you know Kerry's true character because you hold a cynical view of the media; you are just kidding yourself, grasshopper
There will not be a civil war over the PATRIOT ACT, abortion or gay marriage. It just isn't cost effective to the American people. It won't happen. Furthermore, there were more factors that contributed to the Ameican Civil War in 1860 than something morally reprehensible (by which I assume you mean slavery). Better get out you history books.
Why is it that every post on Slashdot these days that mentions Bush or Kerry winds up with partisan nonsense? This article is about the DCMA and how Kerry has indicated that he would be open to re-eximining it. However, half the posts are about Iraq and the possibilty of the American Union crumbling if one or the other is elected.
I for one, feel that Kerry indicating that the DCMA may be opened for examination is a positive point. This discussion may raise the issue to the fore such that it becomes a issue for debate (or relentless repition of partisan talking points as the American media is wont to do). Lets hope that the tech folks out there continue to voice their concern over the stupid DCMA and that Senators and possibly presidents are open to understanding just how sweeping that law is. The may lead to change and rewriting of the law.
The hospitals there would be as good as any major American hospital. Provided you stay in the major cities. There are world class cities in India, Delhi, Bombay and Mumbai. It is naive (and a little elitist) to assume that only in America (or a western country) can there be excellent hospitals.
Bioware is not making KOTOR2. Its Obsidian. And you really missed the point of the parent post.

Its an oversimplification to say that older technology was used without errors. In fact, its just downright incorrect. Appolo 1 and Appolo 13 both suffered from catastophic failures. Furthermore, the next generation of space vehicles, the shuttle, has had two very significat disasters and reams of other failures.
To be fair to the developers and publishers, there exists a culture (especially online) that craves details and information about these upcoming games. I think it can be argued that they are simply filling a demand that is placed upon them. Nintendo does effectively shy away from this pressure and should be commended for it. It must be a hard thing to come to terms with when developing a game. Should they release details to generate some buzz or play it cool and let the game stand on its own merits? As a sort of related aside I think that the guys making KOTOR2 have really found the balance. They release a few details but nothing that will give the story away or stop any of the 'drama' from being played out once the game is available. The most I've heard is the names of a few planets and characters. And the basic premise. These are the sorts of things the game will reveal in the first 5 minutes of play but it has whet my appetite.
I had one for BASIC programming on my C64 and then AMIGA. It told me how to make a bunch of silly little games. It was useful in helping me understand more about computers but now I'm addicted to video games.....
Now that you mention it, I remember learning BASIC and Turing in HS. But I think that was a special case, our computer/math teacher was a real computer nut and he must have conviced someone to get so teaching computers. They must have cost a fortune back then. We had a room full of IMB XTs (I think, that's what they were)
I too recall the heady days of Pascal in undergrad. Trying to explain to my lab partner how one could have an array of arrays... But that was a long time ago and I pose the question. What language is the "teaching language" now? Do they have Pascal?
The idea of insecurities on public machines is not new. Obviously. However, these insecurities are made much more user friendly by the Desktop Search. It used to be script kiddies that could crack the cafe or library computers, now it seems it could be many people. I think the media is right to raise this issue and people should be wary of the Desktop Search on public terminals
That said...
Can anyone think of why the Desktop Search app would be installed on a library public terminal or internet cafe machine? I used a terminal at my library and it was running Solaris with Firefox and was nicely locked out for all other apps. Is this unusual? What are other public terminals using?
Agreed! He is working on The Movies which looks to me one of the more innovative games in recent memory. I am hotly anticipating this one. Check it out...a fansite and Gamespot
This is very impressive. The level of detail required on such a complex project is often daunting. To acheive a design with team members so far flung is nothing short of incredibe. I am not entirely sure what to make of it. It's a little like Linus' idea of "many eyeballs". Except in this case its not finding bugs its bulding satellites.
Imagine an extention of this work being used to solve problems and develop workarounds for breakage on the ISS or (dare I say it....) Mars.
This is like an arms race of yesteryear. The Germans and the Brits with their battleships, the Americans and Soviets with there nukes, the Yankees and Red Sox with payroll. Except this race is way cooler and will likely pay off in a much more productive way.
Yes, that is what is being said. The restriction is like the one we have on people *emitting* little bundles of lead in certain situations. The results must be considered here.
Here, Here. This gadget is for self-righteous and sanctimonious wankers. A TV is a sports bar, really kinda defines the whole atmosphere. And a TV over a bar in a restaurant is useful for the unfortunates who have to eat alone for whatever reason.
But your point is bang-on. Instead of pissing off people in bars, restaurants or reparture lounges...Stay the fuck at home! You are not welcome.
I can smell an over-reaction brewing. This is just the sort of incident that can force the adoption of stringent laws. The thing is, the machine at Berkeley were the ones victimised but it seems to me that this type of information will be sought after regardless of where it is. What I mean is, although Berkeley should have hardened the machine against an intrustion they were victimised because of the info they had, not who they were. The government servers are going to be targeted too.
To be precise, it sounds like a potential feature of an IM client. But yeah, I agree. It'll be like the hotmail/MSN Messenger integration. And, while it is MS, it also pretty damn handy. It's easy to use, which is evidenced by the fact that my mother and mother-in-law have turned on to it. A Google version would be nice. I know Gmail is a great deal better than hotmail, lets hope the trend continues.

Let's hope so at least.
Isn't this the same story as five stories ago? Am I missing something?
Why is it controvertial? Do you have any links with that story? (I'm not being and ass, I'm just curious.)
Is NASA going to let a contract to Hallibuton to develop the resource?
Whoops. I did mean Calcutta. You kids and your new fangled names....

I went to Asia Minor and all I got was this lousy Left Ventricle...

They are pretty lucky nobody got hurt. I wouldn't suggest thhat they buy a lottery ticket anytime soon.
Does China even have a lottery?
