I have to agree. I used to play AD&D years ago until a friend of mine wanted to switch over to play the Star Wars RPG. It was fun change for a short while until the characters became all powerful (read: super stong Jedis). That game, like your comment, really focused on getting better skills and then killing more stormtroopers. Its fun for a little bit but gets old.
I remeber playing AD&D and the reward at the end of a weekend of adventuring was a sword. And it took another weekend to find the magician that told me it did. Good times.
I said "young voter" not a young person. The demographic of that show is between 18-25. Since those are the ages when people generally vote for the first time, they are thus "young voters"
They are very important since they are typically persuaded to vote one way or the other as opposed to having preconceived ideas and voting out of tradition. Every young voter is key to a politician.
I love Jon Stewart's wit. He is one funny dude. I am not an American and I still watch his show because of the cleverness of it. Oddly, he (and the others on the show) seems to be having a real effect on how the US elections are progressing. His unending assaults on the media coverage and their lack of gumption has created a huge following for his show. In the all-important 'young voter' demographic no less. While it is true that he leans left he lampoons what needs lampooning. He is not afraid. And he's friggin' funny.
More Jon Stewart for us all.
I heard he was on the Factor, alas I could not see it because I do not have the odious Fox Network in my country. Is there a torrent for that interview?
This seems to me to be one of those fad type things. It'll never last. The first time you get a Yelp request it may seem interesting or cool. Then after a few more, you'll be sick to death of them and never answer the things.
The great thing about google local is that it's all automated and immediate. This Yelp is going to be lagged which could be a real pain in the ass.
The other thing is, why would you need Yelp! to ask your friends to recommend a restaurant or tailor or whatever. If they are your friends, why not just ask them to their face?

Halo 2 Goes Gold

For me, its the possiblility of making gaming a social event. I prefer the sports games or the shooters (incl Halo 2) because they lend themselves to a group atmosphere.
I don't have an XBox and I have never played Halo, but I imagine I would enjoy it as much as I did Medal of Honour on my PS2. That is because me and my buddies would get some beer and have a few laughs while playing it.
I find PC gaming is best suited to adventure or RPG games. I played KOTOR on the XBox (my brother has one) and the PC and It was a much better experience on the PC. Other games in this genre could never be ported to cconsole because of the size and comllexity of them. These are good games and the PC gaming community will forever be strong because of them. But I think that playing games in the living room on the big TV with some pals is a unique experience that can not be gained on a console. Can I get three cents back for this nickel?
I see your point however, this harkens back to a story on/. yesterday about why IT project can fail. Look here
The gist of it is that the problems with many IT undertakings is a lack of leadership. In the case of a mass migration to Linux or OSX or whatever else, there must be strong corporate leadership. Frequently this is not the case at all. Your idea about iteratively migrating makes some sense, but it prolongs the 'churn' time. I say migration must be done like band aid removal. One clean tear. You just have to lead the pack properly.
After seeing the number of posts that have been able to come up with a solution (i.e. Put it in neutral or put it in park or hit the emergency brake) I find it hard to imagine that this guy was flying around the roads for an hour before the car stopped. Furthermore, if the police were on the phone with him, they should have been able to coach him on one of the above mentioned actions.
So I guess, i am wondering if this story is not just an urban legend type load of crap. I don't speak German, so I only read the report in English. It was culled from the Associated Press but its seems too far-fetched to me.
Another option is Greene's newest book (2004) "The Fabic of the Cosmos". I'm only about a hundred pages into right now, so I'll let you know how it turns out. Having said that, I read "The Elegant Universe" and found it fantastic. The sequel, so far, is just as good or better.
We made the hole that big. Why can't we make it smaller? Of course, I understand that nine million square miles is too big for any immediate benifits. But if there was a programme in place to continually spray would it not have an effect? Imagine some weather balloons launched daily from an Antartica station with a thousand litre tank of ozone...
Why can't we 'reseed' the ozone layer? We can make ozone in a lab, so why don't we get some high flying aircraft and strap some ozone filled bottles to the fuselage and start spraying? It'd be like dusting crops only a lot different.
Although, it is good news that the hole is smaller.
I'm just curious if anybody knows how long this patch took to be released. That is, what was the turnaround time from the discovery of the bug to the release of this patch? In the past it has been a fast as a few hours. The longest I think was only a day or too.
What we need is a sophisticated colour coded chart to inform people of the danger. Or perhaps we can insinuate that all the children in the Mid West will become Ritual Satanic killers because of an email worm.
Homeland security is all about fear and brute force. People do not get worried about cyber security because they are blissfullt ignorant.
However, the day is going to come when cyber security is brought to the fore. Once people lose money or are drastically inconvenienced, there will be some movement to *fix* it.
That is when the Trusted Computing Initiative will be incorporated into federal law and the assimilation of this world will be complete.
This is really exciting stuff. I agree with you that the time for this has come not a moment too soon. We are on the cusp of what could be (in 5 to 10 years) a revolution in human transport.
Problem is: We'll be out of fuel around the same time. Those stupid dinosaurs didn't make enough gas...

I will read them. Much obliged. :)
It time to start saving my pennies so I can buy a trip to space. The big question to ask....
What are you willing to give up in order to save the money for a flight to space?
For me, I'm considering moving into a shittier apartment. Oh, and I plan to start drinking more 7-Up.
Has the Command Line Interface become outdated? What are your thoughts on the CLI and if you had to 'do it all again' would the CLI be as prevalent?

Later taters,
Maybe submit an Ask Slaskdot post to see if anyone has tried it...
It slices! It dices! It makes julienne fries!
I see. It was only a question. No need to shout.
Really? Great minds think alike. *natch*
I see. Thanks.

I really wish it would errupt. That would be awesome. I too live in the East :)
Blow, blow, blow.
When I'm dead, I'll come and haunt the shit out of you. I'll be like Obi-Wan haunting Luke but with a heck of a lot more belligerence.
