I actually believe that Zune was an opportunity for someone to get attention. Since no one cared to crack it(looking at you DVD jon), it gave someone else the opportunity to show off. Regardless, it is good because when m$ discontinues the Zune, the people who bought music will still be able to play it.
Seriously, this is a non-issue. The people that want to ignore the 80 column rule are already doing so. I point to developers who use IDEs religously, never look at the end product and never think about viewing the program in anything other than that IDE. Also, the Java developers who are so stuck in object oriented programming that they do object.method().method().method().method().method( ).method() or have 10+ level of indentions due to nested if, for, and while statements don't care about this as well. For the rest of us "old schoolers"... we are perfectly happy editing code in vi/emacs like editors that respects 80 characters. Comments can be multi-line, most langauges don't care about whitespace, and too many conditionals begs for a method or a function.
You can right click on the file and convert it to mp3, which would erase all tracks.
What makes you think that Apple wouldn't maintain this data if you are right clicking inside of iTunes. Even if they don't now, they certainly can in the future. Most of these container formats have ways to hide comments and such in them. Most transcoding should respect those values so be careful.
Use an external mp3 transcoder to be sure and verifying the results.
People upgrade during the month. The have browsing records both before and after. 1 record using WindowsXP/2K, the next day using Windows Vista. So they just counted twice in the same poll, both times using windows
The reason that Mac didn't drop 2 percent was because not everyone upgraded to Vista this month(they did it in previous months). Bad article with no brain and bad statistics. Move along please.
If anything can be shown from past console releases... once a single company has momentum(Atari, NES, SNES, PSX, GBA, PS2, DS) they typically own that generation. I think it was the Sega Genesis that somewhat challenged the SNES, but for the most part... everyone owned a SNES.
With Nintendo on its way to passing the Xbox 360 and with the DS trouncing the PSP... does keeping pace with the XBox360 really mean a success. At the end of the day... they have still lost money. Keeping pace is nothing but par and hoping that the current leader(m$) makes a mistake. And forget about the supposed 10 year life cycle of the PS3. Think about the graphics cards from 5 years ago(just look at the ps2). 10 years is a long time.
Why would microsoft want to support multiple code bases that render a display and run binaries in pretty much the same way. And Windows 98 needs to die.
I have a better idea. Layer 3 firewalls at every ISP to watch for identificable Windows95/98/ME traffic and when it is seen, Deny all on that. Screw these horrible people running these horrible old OSs.
In my experience, Apple will replace a machine entirely after three attempts at fixing it if they haven't fixed the issue. My personal experiences working with them was actually good, but that is another story.
you are an idiot if you think these type of decisions are made over-night and that Steve Jobs had anything to do with it. If anything, T-Mobile had set the precedent for Steve.
Did anyone even read the article(submitter included). This isn't a sub at all. It is the equivilant of a buoyancy controlled rock with sensors. It is cool stuff though, but these guys aren't gonna be using this thing to look at ship wrecks or follow sperm whales or anything.
Cisco: we registered it, our copyright. Apple: let us use iPhone or we will register iSwitch, iRouter and iFirewall.
Apple user here, but I seriously think that Cisco is worried mainly about the potential for bad PR for Cisco since Apple can seem to do no wrong lately. Headline: iPhone delayed because apple has to scratch off iPhone logo from 200,000 devices because Cisco wanted the 'i'.
because it's only been 4 months or so since Apple released a simple goddamn javascript debugger for it.
I used a debugger that was built-in by using one of the tweaker apps to make it appear. That was 12 months ago and the level of debugging that safari has(not just javascript) was amazing.
I imagine this won't survive Slashdot, but please destroy it(I need some numbers:-). This is not meant for a web browser to all people who will say that it looks ugly in Firefox.
Dude... no where in this discussion is there room for Apple. This is a Microsoft sucks because... well... they just suck conversation. Apple hasn't even released a machine that can play HD-DVD or BluRay Content yet. But... really it is a moot point because when Apple does include one, they will require you to buy a new Mac to use it. So, if a 64 bit OS is required for Apple, you would probably never hear about it because it would be your only choice. The right answer from Microsoft would of been to prevent OEMs from selling any more 32 bit copies of Windows 6 months ago.
alt.binaries.hdtv "posts" do not figure into this conversation as well.
and for the record... I am a diehard Apple fan, but I also know that they have a history of not supporting new hardware on older machines.
Its not like Mod Points are hard to get. Give the guy a break. I enjoyed reading the article, Slashdot truncates it to the Read More length and I didn't have to load up some external webpage to view it. Now... if he does this for every post... and it becomes a trend on Slashdot... then yes it is a problem.
And... I guess you just commented on it for Mod points without providing any thing intuitive except a name from the link that he supplied at the top of his post. Pot calling the Kettle Black?
Come on... undocumented ls -af for "all files". That should of thrown all sorts of bs flags.

I still think the moon is made of cheese and that everything I see is composed of red, green and blue
vi or emacs. It doesn't get more standard or lightweight than those.

Talk to me in 3.5 years and lets see if Jericho is still in the top 100 of amazon sales.
This is so ridiculously easy.

I hope that is the Fellinis on Ponce. Else it will cost you 12 dollars due to the gas to drive to the Ponce one:-P
Indeed, I just verified. Dell Precision 690 gives the ability to add a second quad core processor.

144... dude... you suck at wii bowling.
Your wife would still kick my ass though.
WTF! No mention of Adium in the article or in the thread. It is only the best chat program on the planet.
You should of pushed for a new machine.

If these people read Herbert... they would know that regrowing limbs will turn you into a short gnome creature that everyone hates.

Most intelligent poster on Slashdot ever. This topic is nothing but a what if scenario.

Cool site that goes live tomorrow.

This is one of the most insightful and logical posts I have ever read on Slashdot.
/me takes away your Apple card
