Well, it isn't really a cloud, it's more like a phenomen that only lasts a few minutes.
If you fly a large airplane through a small cloud would you call the results "a new cloud type" ?
The clouds we see here are formed by the hot&cold air just before a violent thunder storm. I have taken pictures of these clouds in France and they are really impressive.
But there is no special relationship between this bios and Windows 7, meaning that Linux can't also start-to-boot in 1 second!
The Upcoming Ubuntu 10.04 is going to start up in 10 seconds, meaning that from you hit the power button until you have the system ready are only 11 seconds on this system.
Seriously. Did they pay the ratings board to write that?
That is not so unlikely, the Left4Dead community is not at all pleased with how Valve seems to be abandoning them, and have created a Left4Dead Boycott Group with over 40.000 members.
Even if they sell each l4d II game for only 40 dollars (instead of the usual 49) that represents 1.6 million dollars in lost sales.
So Valve has to generate more interest in the new title, and this is probably a part of that.
Those are the same people that promised that the DVD region coding and CSS system was only to protect new films from being watched in countries where they hadn't been released yet.
Where in reality, even 50 year old B/W cowboy films are region coded and copy protected when they are re-released on DVD.
Laughing is used by humans in a social contexts to signal "no threat".
At a moment of social discomfort or tension, the weaker individual(s) will fake a laugh to signal that he is not a threat and does not want trouble. I.e. this signals that he is not in an agressive state.
Just watch around you, smiling is often also used in this way,
Laughing also often means "I'm in your social team", i.e. when someone tells a joke that is socially humiliating for a certail group of people, you may laugh to signal that you consider yourself not a part of the humiliated group.
Watch "Cocky Comedy" by David Dengelo where he puts laughter in a social context.
For those who remember the marketing for the Segway, Segway was going to revolutionize human transport. There was even a cloud of secrecy around it, and for months nobody would even tell what this mistery product was.
The hype was just mind boggling and there is no way Segway wil ever come close to match all the promises that were made.
The Segway "FAIL" is just another example of the dangers of overhyping a product before it gets to the market.
Although your comment has been moderated "funny" it has probably been so because people find the idea rediculous.
And it is.
Someone with more time on his hands than me will maybe dig up the study but I remember seeing a study of what kids are willing to play as a character in a game.
It turns out that both boys and girls will play a boy/male hero in a game, but if the choise is only a female/girl character then the girls continue playing but the boys loose interest.
So the answer to why game characters don't represent the same proportions of ethnics groups and sexes as the population's, may be purely for the purpose of getting people to play the games.
I sometimes wonder what the world would look like today if the Catholic church hadn't held back scientific research in the middle ages and killed the best and brightest minds..
You're forgetting the negative side of "technological improvement" and "chemical food".
Since you're comparing to the year 1900, we also have much lower fertility rates than then, male sterility has fallen, we have better health care, that's for sure, but we also have diseases wich were almost unheard of 100 years ago.
GM food has been shown to have negative impact on the environment where it's grown and it's effect on our health would best be described as "disputable", since the GM companies are actively lobbying the government for exclusive access to our kids food supply.
Rich men marry beautyful women as "trophy wifes" or as a status simbol.
Beautyful wifes don't have to work, and the rich husband gets fed up with her staying all day in Prada and Dior stores.. decides she has to be occupied by other things...
=> Beautyful wife has above average number of kids..
Someone modded you "funny", but sadly you are right.
Windows 7, is basically Vista with a lot of drivers and functionality excluded from the default install.
That's why the "Vista v/s Windows 7" is showing Windows 7 doing so much better.
But vait a while, install some programs to print, watch a HD video and you get the whole palladium suite installed with it. (Microsoft never gave up on palladium, only renamed it)
True, but if you want to share your documents with the world MS has a *special* license for you.
If you connect Sharepoint to the internet and want to create a public website with your documents, the pricetag will probably knock your plan out cold.
Even if the two jobs pay the same in the beginning, note that the IT job is for a high level technical position, while the manager job is for a entry level manager.
Even if your position stays the same, you are going to rise faster in pay if you take the manager path (if you are any good).
Even though the Slashdot poster did call it SDK, it is not a SDK.
An SDK will allow you do modify how the game behaves, create rules such as autokick/ban players who teamkill over a certain limit, create flying monsters etc...
What Valve has released is just, as the name implies "authoring tools for Left 4 Dead" and it does only let you "author" new content, i.e. graphics and sounds/music/maps.
It has been "coming soon", since last fall, I wonder if Valve plans to only release it for L4D 2, forcing the current players to buy the new game if they want to create mods.
It's not so much fanboys. When you develop for something, you want to develop for a stable feature set. If there's going to be a dozen forks of a database, it becomes much more work to test all the versions and apply patches.
It now makes far more sense to develop using a different DBMS.
Microsoft has said exactly the same thing about Linux..
What will happen is that developers will support one "brand" of MySQL. Just like things are today with Linux distributions.
Most corporate offerings support Only Redhat Enterprise Linux,or SuSE, although their products work (and are run on) different distributions.
You can't realy study evolutionary biology and human behaviour without suspecting this (and many other things).
Without social programming, we still feel hostile towards people who are "different", whether those are individuals from our own social group ore another race.
And we're not that special, other species do it also. It probably served the purpose of "cleaning up the gene pool" 300.000 years ago.
Wether people feel comfortable with it or not, we still carry along with us many of the emotional responses out ancestors developed, and even species from which we evolved.
Future Microsoft Vulnerability Announcements will be made on 4Chan !
Nope, sorry no cigar ..
I have also taken similar pictures (my friend put them on facebook here) and there is absolutely nothing "regular" about them

Hah ! I bet your mom doesn't know the answer to that !

I wonder if the judge would see things differently if someone planted a tracking devide on his car, to track the car.
And often people demonstrate the exact thing, at the exact moment, they accuse others of said behaviour, like in this case.
