  1. Ghost In The Shell.. on Virtual Reality Creates False Memories · · Score: 1

I've only read a few comments down but already I'm hugely reminded of the "ghost-hacked" people in the movie "Ghost In The Shell"..

From the Wikipedia page: "It turns out that the man has been ghost hacked himself and has no idea of his identity. He thinks he is a high-ranking member of a criminal organization, but is in fact a low-level thug, another puppet being controlled by the Puppet Master. The interrogation of the garbageman reveals that he too has had a simulated experience, or a false memory implanted into his brain. It turns out that he does not really have a family at all."

Holy crap, have you ever seen that 3d-animated show Reboot? I just got this really vivid image of a neighbourhood being destroyed as though it was whipped up in some kind of digital tornado, and sucked up into whatever unknown void... "AAhhhhh shit THEY USED JPEG!!!!!!! Run for your lives!!"

Um, I've been calling about 20 stores every day, for nearly 2 weeks now, and no shipments have come in (Vancouver, Canada). I'm starting to get pretty pissed off at the complete lack of systems in this area. Apparently Best Buy is getting a shipment on Friday but they told us to "show up the night before because people will be lining up". What the fuck? The system launched 3 weeks ago and I'm supposed to camp overnight for it? Great.

This happens constantly with the SkyTrain ticket machines here in Vancouver Canada - I press the "2 zone" button on the touch screen but it thinks I chose 3 zones because the touch screen is not properly in line with what's actually on the display...

The fact that the US is using the same technology for an election really bothers me... It makes me feel embarassed for these people that they aren't able to realize pen & paper is the only reasonable way to properly do an election of such significance. Although, now that I think about it, I just feel angry because it seems much more likely that they know damn well how inaccurate the machines are, and are using it to their advantage.

This article comes just a few days after a /. article describing how unbelievably simple it would be for someone to "hack the vote" and manipulate poll results on electronic voting machines.

My next attempt will be a faraday cage of primitive sorts, some chainmail-like wire mesh to wrap around the speakers (mesh instead of solid so as to allow the sound to pass through unscathed of course)...

  21. Re:Too Complicated on Lego Christmas Production Shortage · · Score: 1

YES, I agree 100%. I just wrote a post about this further up in the comments. It defeats the purpose of even building the shit when Lego has already built your entire castle for you in a single piece (yes, exagerration for effect)...

For probably that reason alone, I just stopped even caring about Lego. I remember how all the crazy awesome castles and etc. I wanted were being replaced by retarded molded-piece sets that eliminated the possibility of creative usage of the pieces.

  22. Re:Anything important out of production? on Lego Christmas Production Shortage · · Score: 1

I completely agree man. I've felt more and more "disenfranchised" by the new entire-castle-in-a-single-piece Lego of late. It's like, why are you taking all of the fucking imagination out of it? I might as well get action figures and RC cars for my kids instead because Lego is building the entire fucking item themselves anyways.

My friends and I built entire crazy-ass cities and had buckets full of lego pieces. We could just sit there for hours and hours and create the most totally awesome little cities and places etc. But as more and more stylized pieces came out, well, you lose the ability to "mix and match" between sets because frankly a neon orange window doesn't go well in my medieval castle, which happens to be guarded by Bionicle creatures from the year 2834 (or whatever)...
