remember, this is IBMs chip, they also have OS/400, AIX, and linux servers out there, running more than one of these at a time is a great boon in terms of keeping harware costs down and in scalability in servers.
I could never accept that Slate had genuine editorial independence from Microsoft.
thats because their editorial independance isnt written in stone...:-P
is this really front page news? I mean, sure its "news for nerd" and kinda cool but it's not the most innovative thing ever, nor does it have some significant importance. So why is this front page news? is this just a slow news day or something? Just wondering....
it is a rather neat system which I wouldnt mind having in my living room, though comparing it to a g5 tower or such is like comparing a tricked out hyundai with a jaguar....
its runs under classic (not osx native unfortunately, though it runs perfectly fine even so), and yes its included. You can find it in the "Applications (Mac OS 9)" folder on your HD (not you you, since you dont run osx, but anyone running osx can).
while I agree with you, I would just point out that many of these technologies effect us indirectly everyday. SUre you may not board a plane everyday, but much of the food you eat was flown to you. Sure you may not use the can as much as you are online, but plumbing brings you your water and possibly yor power too (the power and food arguments both apply for engines too). As for telephones, I would actually lump them in there wirth the developement of the net.
I agree that the internet has changed society more than any other developemnt has in such a short period of time. However, I think these other things have far more of an effect on your lives than you realize.
I disagree actually, it really depends on what this guy does with the property he bought. If it becomes a cash cow there will be incentive for others to buy in at the same price, creating demand. This allows the game makers to keep their prices high and still sell. If this guy doesnt make money off it, demand slides and the game manufacturers cannot charge as much.
supply and demand, the game has no incentive to produce many such islands, just a few. It keeps the proprty "exclusive" which people will pay lots of money for.
The laws of physics are not like traffic laws, they cannot be disobeyed. If it can be, then it is disqualified as a physical law, and it doesn't matter anyway.
if you want to be anal about it than the laws of physics arent actually laws but are only theories that are right so often that we call them laws. Theres always the infentessimal chance for example that something will fall up instead of down, its just that the odds are so slim its not within reasonable (or even unreasonable) possibility.....
the 3d interface from jurassic park actually exists and you can d/l it if you want, it never was completely finished though and is thoroughly dated by this point.
you can find it here
get with the times, its obvious the bees decided that killing him wasnt enough, hired a lawyer, and are now suing. They are claiming that they own the intellectual property associated with swarming and use of the word. The are joined in their lawsuit by wasps, flies, and locusts who have all jointly formed the SIAA (Swarming Insects Association of America).
in a statement issued by the SIAA they call humans who use swarming technology of violating copyright and tarnishing their image as insects by using swarming for illegal activites......
most planes these days have power outlets, you can plug it in. My powerbook on heavy usage even swapping batteries only gets about 5 hrs total (I have 2 batteries and it gets about 2 1/2 hrs a battery). However, on a plane I can usually plug in my laptop and not have to worry about it, the same applies here.
I can see the nightmares I'm going to have at my job (comp help desk at college) now. I've been convincing everyone not to use ie, now I'm going to have people telling me "I'm not using ie, I'm using aol....". Oh my aching head;-(. I really want to beat aol's ceo over the head with one of my users laptops now damnit. This is of course after I beat the user for telling me the quote above.....
no-one lost their job over columbia because it really was an accident, or are you one of those people who believes that firing someone makes any bad situation better>
as for what nasa is, I happen to know a few people who work for nasa and they tend to be scientists with a thirst for knowledge earning somewhat crappy government paychecks but doing the research that they live for.
Nasa has been an amazing boon to scientific progress in the time it has been around and if it isnt doing the job that it could be its because of lack of adequate funding, not lack of talent or scientific ambition.
You're right about commuting, I live in NY too and a paper copy of anything is better for reading on the subway. However, I usually get my news online and read a book when I'm on the train.
If you read my comment then you intentially ignored 3/4s of it in writing your post, as for being too thin skinned.... you responded to a post by responding to the first sentance without the conext. That means you rushed to your keyboard in eager anticipation without thinking about what you wrote, probly because you suddenly took offense at the first sentance and just *had* to respond to it; tell me who's thin skinned. That said, I'm not about to start a flame war myself so I'll leave it at that
did you read the rest of my comment before flaming on it? I mean, I know this is/. but couldnt you read beyond the 1st sentance before posting Here, I'll quote myself:
That said, I agree with the grandparent. I'm on the other side of the spectrum. In my senior year of highschool I routinely drove the family car, I'm in college now and still do. Had my parents decided to track me via cell phone in highschool I would have considered it insulting and demeaning. After all, if they trust me to take out the car, then they trust me to drive properly. If I dont drive properly on my head be it.
I agree 100% that its not a good thing to track your children, as you say I meant legally (which is evident from the rest of my post). Please actually read before you comment from now on......
because most papers cover more than just local news and more viewpoint from more papers means you get more balanced news overall. I routinely read papers from all over the world though I live in NY. I do thisw online these days, but back when this paper was founded online wasnt a big thing, if at all.
not to mention, what if you have family or business contacts or friends in LA but live in DC or NY, maybe you'd be concerned about the news eh?

I flew a domestic flight coach from NYC to chicago last year and had power outlets at my seat.....
how far we've taken swarming since its humble beginnings five years ago.
you mean bees can now make honey and milk?
