The question is, what is the tangible benifit of sending people to the moon/Mars/Jupiter/Proxima Centauri?

Because we can. More serious: to spread the human genome and getting better survival chances if some catastrophe sterilizes the solar system or it reaches an equilibrium state with no entropy gradient left. So that some human can carry on the real purpose (IMHO) of being here: finding out how the universe works (before it reaches heat death - yes, i demand you silly gamers turn off your gaming machines NOW ;)).

Citation needed. I never heard about 200 rockets (more like a dozen or so) and not everyday in the news.

You might argue that some of the people in Gaza don't fire rockets at Israel every day. True, but they clearly support it. We know this not only from their own mouths, but also from the fact that they sit by while it happens.

Similar: if you let a friend run a meth lab in your house, do not be surprised if the cops arrest you and take your house. Blaming your friend will not significantly help your defense. You let shit happen in your house, you face the consequences.

Your analogy is broken. My own house != the country i live in. Not even your last paragraph stands if i live in an apartment.

Well, this article is not solely on sick babies. It's also about tests for breast cancer gene mutations which the corporation in question threatens to stop if these hospitals would conduct the test (for epilepsy) in-house (and by that action infringe on IP of that corp.).

It's just the latest example I found why IP on DNA is bad for healthcare. Maybe this doesn't mix well with the rest of my comment, but I was just too lazy. Furthermore, this article just isn't plain black/white (they chose a bad headline, agreed).
