I've never had *Windows* bluescreen. I've had applications and drivers that *caused* Windows to bluescreen.
Hell, I've had linux bluescreen - RedHat 7.x, when CD-ROM was physically removed during install.
Yeah. Me too. Netgear DG834G router. Various mixes of B and G cards between myself and next door running in B/G mode. Until someone new moved in next door with some sort of no-name B spec crap PCMCIA card. Everything suddenly dropped to B speeds. I can't complain too much - I bought the router, but everyone else bought their own cards and I get the DSL free, neighbours pay for that.
This guy I used to work with was in a bad accident and lost one of his arms falling off a motorbike. Whenever some new tech gadget was realised people in the office would drool over the webites and say stuff like "I'd give my right arm for one of those babies". Once though, I forget what it was - not the iPod but something released around that timeframe, someone said it with the one-armed guy standing behind him, to which he replied "I already did" and pulled the device out of his pocket.
Why have it turned on if you're not going to answer it? Answering it will cause disruption to those around you in the cinema. I've never had a text message that was that important. Phone companies provide call minders for a reason.
What are the chances then of Linux improving enough in the next year to be a viable purchase for a new PC? If microsoft is releasing nothing but patches and fixes for the next two years, is this not the best time to get the marketting underway?
I still get this. Onboard sound card combined with Western Digital HDDs (noisy buggers, but great performers). When theres no actual sounds being produced, turning off the speakers gives about 50% less noise.

Ah. I must be less intelligent than you. Said link points to a completely unusable page full of text with no _screenhosts_. About as usable as a printed page. Where do I click?
Lets all bow to our future usability overlord.
> Sure, it would be familiar and would make a user less scared to migrate, but why not think of a better UI?
Maybe its already been said, but Linux developers are notorious for being non-newbie friendly with their UI "statements". The 'ability to program' and 'usability' have almost nothing in common.
PS. anyone looking for a usable UI design please contact me:)
My own crackpot theory, but a theory nonetheless. The Mediterranean used to be land, but Europe and Africa eventually split at Gibraltar and the worlds largest ever waterfall was formed and created the Mediterranean Sea. I'm sure people around at the time would have had a civilisation _somewhere_ in that now-submerged area, which would have been flooded when the Atlantic arrived.
The only problem with this theory is that this occurred millions of years ago, and apparently humankind hasnt been around long enough. All I need is a much earlier race of mankind ro be discovered.
Yes, but you're listening to them on earphones mostly. Whats the point of having high quality music files but listening to them on low quality speakers?

Don't be worried. Whats the worst that could happen?
I take it you missed Marketting 101 and skipped the Advertising Where It Matters tutorials?
"Avoid standing near tall objects."
If you avoid standing near tall objects, don't you become the tallest object? And thus more likely to get struck?
I don't get it. She's still using a mouse in the pics.

Maybe you meant "When the vice president and I are alone, it's Colon and Dick," Colon Powell on relationship with VP Cheney. ?
> Yes, but the other providers aren't archiving your messages
Because they told you so? And you believe them?

Your computer? Or your breakfast cereal? Theres a difference you know.

And now you are witness to how usable /. is. First button you see/click is submit, not preview. How obtuse.
