All I want is having +n funny mods -n flamebait mods where n is the same number not count against my karma. I'm fine with funny not counting for karma, I just would rather it not set me up for more negative than should be possible.

If I post with a karma bonus modifier enabled than the most negative karma I should be able to get is three (from 2 to -1). If someone mods that up to +5 funny and then I go to -1 I've lost 6 karma points.

Please fix that, it's all I really ask. I usually can read through most speling grammar and errors, so not so big a deal. Dupes don't even bother me as much as the funny moderation.

More than once I've walked out of those kinds of meetings. My boss (and his boss) know me and know my style. I fix things for a living, if I hold a meeting it is most likely with my customers (the techs doing the testing) so they can let me know what they need/what's borked/etc. if it's with management it's to inform them that I need $80K this month for repairs or tests X, Y, and Z are not getting done while Foo and Bar will take longer, "your call". There is no excuse for those meetings to take any longer than 30 min on a bad day. I've had meetings as short as 5 min with the entire staff and once those with no issues have said "I'm up" they leave, everyone's happy.

The only meeting I'll spend more than 1 hour in is either a business update meeting, or a finance pow-wow where I'm usually thinking BOFHish ways to get money and wishing you could actually get away with that stuff :-)

Especially for something like harassment situations e-mail is required. While the initial contact from the harassee and manager (and subsequently harassor and manager) may be face to face in a private room, a follow-up e-mail must be sent detailing what was discussed and what the next step and/or anticipated outcome is to be. Without that "paper trail" (manager should save a copy, and cc HR) the company is wide open to litigation.
E-mail is often an excellent "binder". After any face to face meeting where I feel that I want something written I summarise the meeting and e-mail the other side and ask for a confirmation reply. If I don't get a reply then I treat it as a reply in the negative and act appropriately. So far I've had a successful career.

No issue when doing RAID1 on non-boot partitions. Anything else and I agree weith that statement 100%.
    My general procedure:
Linux boot disk ~20 gigs. Buy drives in pairs and software RAID them. Whenever the boot disk changes (rarely) I make a ghost image of it. If any one data drive fails, simply replace the drive with the closest capacity (or cheapest $$) drive available. If the boot disk dies, grab another small disk and restore the ghost image.
For stuff that does not need to be RAIDed I just slam additional drives on.

Actually most of those were fairly good examples along the lines of what I was thinking. You are right, of course, that I won't change my mind, but that doesn't detract from the discussion.

My concern with the concept of taxing wealth is as stated, it increases the total tax burden on everyone. Without the incentive to save (which taxing savings removes) people will not bank their money. Most will simply spend down to whatever level is required to not pay taxes (yes there will be some who do not, but they will be the exception). As a result of this chronic spend-down most people would not have the financial fortitude to take a large hit to their finances (medical, non-insured home damage, etc.) When these events inevitably happen the government will be expected to "bail out" the people impacted. This money has to come from somewhere (taxes). It becomes a vicious circle.
