    Size matters. A pipe that holds a vacuum with 10 times the cross sectional area is going to have 10 times the wall stress. The hyperloop is quite a bit bigger than a natural gas pipeline. Also, it's much harder to prevent implosion than explosion.

    We could perhaps use hyperloop for perishable fruits or same day packages. Removing humans would remove a lot of the logistical and safety concerns.

    I don't know if plastic microfibres are somehow different than regular plastic, but considering that the water in plastic water bottles always tastes like plastic, I don't know how big a difference it makes. The taste isn't some homeopathic magic. I mean, if it tastes like plastic, that means you are drinking plastic.

  10. I wonder how many people seeing slashdot for the first time know that you can click the title of a heading to go to the forum.
    There used to be a link below each heading that brought you to the full summary and forum. They got rid of that in some UI rework.

    Oh, and did you know that those icons on the right of the title are buttons? And those things at the top are menus.

    It's sad that that this post got modded 5, Insightful. People like this are why we have so much whitewashing in Hollywood. Fortunately, studios are slowly realizing that movies with a diverse cast tend to do better than others.

    BTW, Rogue One surpassed 1 G$ in the box office.

    True but high fructose corn syrup is processed with some enzymes to make it higher in fructose than normal corn syrup.

    Glucose (dextrose) is roughly half as sweet as fructose. People use HFCS because it's sweeter than normal syrup.

    You could say the same thing about chemical weapons, or biological weapons, laser blinding weapons, land mines, incendiary weapons, etc. These are banned by treaties signed by most of the world.

    While any advanced country can easily develop these weapons in secret, they risk getting caught, and any actual use of the weapons will risk alienating the rest of the world, or being invaded by coalition forces.
