This is a wonderful idea. When you have four consoles in a room, the controller cords get very tangled and it takes a LOT of time to untangle them.

Plus, when i am at a lan, we constantly have to have cable extenders because of the piss poor distance on the xbox controllers. The standard feature of wireless controllers would be wonderful. I can sit anywhere in the damn room i please without distance issues.

On the point about charging, Im sure microsoft would put some charging base for the controllers, or have a cable to charge while playing.

Read the psp price information area.

400 dollars as a launch price was floated around for a while. Knowing that consoles lose money at launch, i can reasonably deduct that the price of the console is 500 dollars to produce. Now, to give sony credit i will assume that the manufacturing price dropped recently in lieu of their price drop, so roughly 400 dollars.

Sony is not going to say "It costs us xxx to manufacture this product and we are selling it for yyy at a loss of zzz" because that doesnt look good to investors. You have to infer what the launch price is and deduce from there. I could be off by 50 or 100 (i dobut it though), but the fact is that they are losing a lot of money on the psp.

Analysts. Before the launch in japan and before the launch price announcement in the US, everyone was placing the price of the PSP at around 300-400 dollars due to the manufacturing process (do a quick search on google), some were even placing the price as high as 500 assuming that sony wanted to offset the manufacturing costs.

Supposedly, the only reason that the price is so low is because of the DS and its low cost. Granted, SCE president says that the costs of the unit wont come down to profitability range (costs below 250) until march (optimistic estimate), but Sony had to lower their price to its current point because of the below expected price of the DS (Industry analysits were expecting a 200 dollar price for the DS)

Personally, i believe that the DS is just a sideshow for nintendo before the GBA2 (nintendo even calls the DS a "third tier"). I think it was just created to keep the nintendo folks on nintendos side and to keep sony on its toes. If Sony got a firm hold on the handheld market before nintendo could release any kind of compedetor, nintendo would be truly sol.

Recently the rights have lapsed and funimation acquired the rights to sub)), but that does bring up a good point on whether distributing just the script is legal or not. Watch Trigun, Kthx.

    2. They are more thorough. For example, many fansubs go through the extra length of providing extra notes - something the professionally done official licensed versions almost never do. I truly appreciate these, because it helps explain a lot of cultural idiosyncracies.

Yeah, they do. Check the inserts of the dvd cases. They always have SOMETHING there that explains the cultural differences/meanings. They just dont place it inside the video like subbers have to. Plus the dvd format makes it so the companies cannot make typesetted signs without hardsubbing, and that would create one hell of an uproar (Rahxephon ep1 op)

    3. They use better fonts. I've watched many licensed anime and compared the fonts with those of the fansubs. The most common font used is just damned ugly.

This is not the fault of the licensors. DVD format prohibits any other font than the crappy arial font that you see used. Either way, pretty fonts/styling tend to distract from the episode

    1. They provide subtitles that are more "fun" (they can get more creative because their jobs don't depend on it being professionally done). This applies very often to the swearing in the dialogue.

This completely depends on the group. All the faster groups sacrifice quality for speed (mainly lacking edits). When I have compared official dvd releases to group releases (A-Keep/Aone) the lines in the dvd made more sense where the lines in the subbed episodes appeared rushed and unpolished. The professional people are able to spend more time and polish the rough edges to make the episode flow perfectly. For example, the translator may translate a line as "The fire rage created ball flew from timmy's hand" and the editor may just edit the line as "the rage created fireball flew from timmy's hand" when the professionals make the line "The fireball flew from timmy's enraged hand" It is the subtle aspects like that that seperate the professionals from the speedsubbers. They can't sit back for a week and edit an episode less they lose their speedsuber status and all the leechers to go with it.

The only area that licensed anime is better is dubbing. But only barely so, because they have professional equipment and voice actors/actresses to do it. Unfortunately, it sounds like they only have 3 actresses and 2 actors for all anime titles because they all sound the same.

Fans dont dub. period. The only dubbing that is done is parody dubs. The amount of work that is required for a dub is insane and it is impossible for a group to do a decent job dubbing and get the series out in any reasonable timeframe.

Liscenced anime is better on many fronts. For one, they have the actual source so you get very crisp high quality dvd's. No matter how good the encoder, you cannot make a twice mpeg4 compressed tv cap look anything like a dvd source.

There needs to be a bot system that can create battles in the middle of fields instead of right outside bases. I remember the few battles that took part inbetween bases were the best damn experiances i had in that game.

From what i gather in your post, they still havent addressed the repetative nature of the base network. This is the reason why planetside sucks. It is not because the concept sucks, it is the lack of any real, lasting objective (whether it be from the players or one injected by the developers) that kills this game.

The two major problems with this game right before launch were the musical bases/zerg rushing and the horrible cone of fire (you could stand point blank and miss a person). They said in the forums that they would never fix the cone of fire (i dont know if they have reversed this stance) and the musical bases is just a part of the game.

This game sucks not because of the lack of players, it sucks because the developers/community wanted an eq-fps. It does not appeal to the hard core fpser. If sony would have not taken such a noobie friendly stance and tweeked the major problems of the game early on they would be in a much better situation than they are in now. For example, have actual objectives instead of "capture the base, run away, recapture the base, run to next base, capture another base, recapture first base...". Instead they focused on the leveling aspect of the game instead of the actual gameplay.

Many fps vets, including myself, were turned off before the end of beta. The lack of a good aiming system and the lack of area damage was inexcusable. This plus the lack of any true obtanaible objective was the death warrant for this game. Planetside had its chance, and it believed that by just being a mmofps would be enough to intice all the gamers to play and stay. Sadly, that is not enough to take the vets away from their free multiplayer UT/Quake/HL and pay for musical base death match.
