Windows doesen't just connect to everything automatically. It finds a few that are probably the ones you are looking for. And if you have networks nearby that you've connected to already, it will auto-connect.
I read a little of the message board out of curiousity. It reads like a snuff film and borders on criminal harrasment. I didn't really see anything actually related to law, but whining about accidental reformats of their hard drives and what hot chicks are coming to Yale. I think that the users on this board should be investigated. Show their parents what they're doing with their college money.
I think that this is better summarized with the following modern assessment.
1. (insert unfortunate event here - i.e. death or dismemberment) 2. Find suitable media scapegoat(video games, Marilyn Manson, comics, d n' d, etc) 3. Write report(or study), submit to favorite media outlet 4. ????? 5. Profit!!!
Ok, here's a couple more pitches for you:
Caddyshack Golf sim(like Hot shots golf, etc)
Lost in Translation RPG(you walk around Tokyo doing NOTHING for 2 hours)
Garfield(good for the kids)
It's the bazillionth apple product I don't care about. I have an mp3 player, and I have a phone, and I have a computer. Perfectly happy keeping all of them separate.
Sounds great in theory(I was pondering the lifecycle of my XP box just yesterday), but I like the idea of having support for my OS(I.e. updates.). As such, I think when MS ends support for XP in 2011 or 13, I think, I will probably buy maybe a new desktop to build from scratch with vista, or buy a new dell or something with vista prepackaged. When you think about it, $200 for a license of XP or Vista over 10 years isn't really that much. So why not keep your desktop standard for $20 a year?
Wasn't Hillary quoted as saying about a month ago that the ESRB needed goverment oversight to "regulate the ratings"? And no, I don't think this qualifies.
I want to know why so many Slashdotters behold XBOX as a major technological innovation but shun Microsoft when Windows is mentioned. Here's one that uses Windows at home and loves it.
I haven't heard the word "schlepping" used in a complete sentence since "Requiem for a Dream".

One of my favorite movies..Better yet,
"Was I listening to pop music because I was depressed, or was i depressed because I was listening to pop music?"
"Emotionally Stable" != "Not a wierd redneck".
And certainly,
Likes Country Music != Someone I want to hang out with
I heard from a dell rep that all they use in their offices are HP's.
Slashdot, of course!!!

I used to love those movies. I'd buy it...too bad I'm still a PS2 user and don't really want to blow big bucks on a new console. :(
Funny you ask. In soviet russia, You track the hotels!

I am sick and tired of all these MF'ing online predators in my MF'ing e-learning 2.0 space!
I would like to avoid ever buying a PC with Vista

I agree, this sounds like a pretty productive activity. Maybe this is a result of "picking his battles."
"I see you're trying to search for Porn. Would you like to try Microsoft Porn for free?"
....What documentation?
Makes me feel bad about the tuna sandwiches I had for dinner last night.
Someone has got to find out what site this is...
You're forgetting "slippability", "number of extraneous buttons", and "ability to calm nerves by rolling mouse wheel quickly".
I use windows XP and within 11 seconds of starting up windows crashes at its loading screen!
So, apparently, you don't really "use" windows XP.
it should be used for Netflix or Slashdot instead.
