A third alternative: replace our two-party system with a multi-party system. Right now it just feels like Nader and his Green Party don't matter at all. People complain about him 'stealing' votes that are vital for one of the other candidates to win, but just think about this for a minute. The Green Party, whether or not you agree with its platform, is a political party, just like any other.
I find the very idea of a two-party-only system very, very restricting; restricting to the point of suffocation. Let's get five parties going strong. Five candidates for presidential office. At least then we Americans would have a real choice on our hands.
"Remind me why they supported (or orchestrated) the destruction of several democratic governments in the Americas alone?"
This is simple: to ensure the stability and future of American interests, destabilize and strongly influence or control other parts of the world. Controlling is best, of course, especially when that control is under the covers (which is certainly what is going on in Iraq right now). Destabilizing other areas opens up lots of options: move in and take control (Iraq... don't forget that we put Saddam in power in the first place); unstable regions exhibit weak economies, and this is good for ensuring other countries economies do not threaten American interests.
I could go on. But since its 4:37 AM, I'm sure you get the gist of my argument(s).
Windows isn't insecure because of the 'tight integration of apps and the OS'. Such 'tight integration' doesn't exist for general applications, just things like IE. Security issues are caused by poor code. Buffer overflow attacks, for example, shouldn't be possible if the programmers know what allows such attacks to occur and writes good code accordingly.
In the case of IE, many of the security flaws exist because the user-mode API exports functionality that allows it to occur. Again, this boils down to poorly written code.
Understand, though, that this doesn't mean that the MS programmers were lazy or apathetic. Windows and IE have been built upon, and built upon, and built upon, to get to where they are today. The entire system becomes bulky and messy. This is one of the reasons given by Apple for writing Mac OS X from the ground up. It is not based on Mac OS 9. MS should do the same with Windows, eventually.
Seriously, couldn't she sue the publisher for trademark infringement or something like that? I mean... when Mike Rowe made his website, Microsoft was all over him till he settled.
If the new hearts use magnetic fields to move blood around, wouldn't this make it toooooo easy to kill someone with such a heart by disrupting the magnetic field for an extended period of time (say, 5 minutes)? You could be killed by some dude standing five feet away with his hands in his pockets.
Forgetting intentional death by magnet, what happens if a person with one of these hearts just happens to walk too close to a strong magnetic force?
Long ago my planet solved its lawyer problem for good. At first we wanted to just fire all the lawyers, but that wasn't enough. So we changed our plans, and instead fired all the lawyers into the sun. After that, any new lawyer could represent a client, but if he did so and lost his case, he was consequently fired into the sun.
After doing these things, the world economies boomed, birth rates shot up 150%, the average intelligence of my fellow Orks increased by 25%, and global warming became a non-issue.
Some days I wonder why the hell I came to this planet.
Why does the fluid core make a magnetic field that seems to be so important? I mean... magnets don't have fluid cores, but they have magnetic fields, right?
Did you know that in the first episode (maybe the second?) of the first season of SG1, Samantha Carter said something to the effect of
"...we had to McGuyver the DHD back home..."
Its hard to catch because it goes by so quickly.
The military doesn't obey politicians. It obeys the president. Its been that way (following a single man rather than a 'committee') since the Roman empire. The main difference, though, is that at some point in history the Roman militaries started swearing oaths to their leader, rather than to the Empire. As a result it made it easier for the Republic to fall under the control of a single man. In the US, at least, the military swears an oath to the flag, not to the President.
In any case, if the President says to do something, the military will do it. Its an oversight committees job to ensure the President doesn't overstep his bounds.
When will we be using soylent green as an infinitely renewable energy source? And since it's an excellent food source, its like two birds with one stone!
... I think the RIAA's next strategy is just going to be to open up the phone book from every city, town, and village in the country and file suit against every single American citizen, nearly every one of which will have to settle with the RIAA for a few thousand dollars, because it will be less expensive than hiring a lawyer to prove, say, that one doesn't even own a computer.
NO KIDDING! Put yourself in the shoes of the only senator, or one of the very few senators, to oppose the Patriot Act. It would kill your political career. Everybody else on Capitol Hill will use you to further their own political career.
Yeah, Kerry voted for the Patriot Act. Did you know that the nation was still reeling from 9-11 when the Patriot Act was passed?
Yeah, Kerry voted for the Patriot Act. Do you realize that most senators dont have the time to study new bills the way we'd like them to?
Its not guaranteed to work for everybody. Some people might have some gene(s) that prevent the virus from doing its thing, or even alter its behavior slightly.
I dont have a sig. Help me.

Dude - Learning why others use paragraphs would be an excellent career-enhancing activity.
I guess this means SCO's policy of firing all the programmers and replacing them with lawyers and PR personnel is bad.

of us Americans when I say, "That sucks."
Dude, you've got to plug your computer in...
Um, yes, I'd like to buy a vowel.
'A', please.
Do I get extra points for playing all seven tiles to the board?

What the article failed to mention is that Marshall Phelps said he should be 'ph34r3d'.

After being vaccinated, I can't get addicted to gambling, pr0n, any drug, shopping, anything! I'm desperate!
Someone help me! I can't stop trying to get addicted to something! I keep trying, over and over, and nothing! I can't stop!

More Soylent Green, please!
Hacked. In honor of Xvid's release, some loser decided to hack Xvid's website.
Hasn't someone already patented this process?
Does this mean my dogs heart-worms have heart-worms? The idea of recursively-defined worms frightens me for some reason.
