oh it's a throw back to the pope's decree (which originated in europe btw) that sex was sinful and the body evil. It's stupid yea. And we all know just how "sinful" Catholics really think sex is... good catholic school girls -- there's an oxymoron.

  2. Re:Do they get a share of the sale of CD players? on Music Exec Fires Back At Apple CEO · · Score: 1

good point! Greedy bastards they are. Work for a living by doing more concerts is what I say. The market has already decided RIAA, and they decided that we're tired of the way they make one hit on a cd full of mediocre stuff and have to pay for the rest of the crap. We also don't think they are worth being billionaires without working for it which is by doing concerts and meeting the fans. What RIAA wants to do is tell US what the market should be. And that's NOT how market methods work. That's price fixing is what they do.

  3. the thing about porn on FBI Agents Put New Focus on Deviant Porn · · Score: 1

The thing about porn and the law that has always puzzled me is that if a person gets paid for sex without a camera its called prostitution and the woman is thrown in jail (backwards especially since this occupation is usually turned to as a last result of other problems if not downright slavery). BUT if the same person is paid to have sex in front of a camera its called "art" and legal. And the situation for the person could still be the same - only in the "profession" because of other circumstances that darn near enslave them to it. In both cases the real monsters are ignored. - Pimps. That's what this crackdown is trying to do I bet - attack the pimps. It's like the difference between Playboy and other sleazy rags. Playboy bends over backwards to stay in full compliance with the law and their models are well cared for and certainly not hurting to be enslaved into it. The other sleazy rags though...they are like many of the 'net's porn sites where the pictures/video may even have been obtained illegally, without consent and certainly without pay. They are like Paparrazi to the porn industry iow. Will the FBI go after Playboy? - heck no, they'd find nothing illegal, doubt if they'd even find tax fraud. But these other thousands of sites? It's about time but they should just drop the stupid "deviant" thing, that's just a tag word they are using to justify their raids. A justification I don't think they even need. There are plenty of industries that have to accept and expect to have inspections popped on them by surprise at a moment's notice, the porn industry should be no different. For that matter ask the models if they want to be urinated on. I listened to an interview with Eva Carrara (sp) once and she advised gals getting into the porn biz to not put with that crap (her words) and especially not accept gang bangs on the first run... to only give up the goods gradually iow and remain in control that way. This crackdown could lead to a much needed service protecting models. Afterall factory workers are protected by laws and their employers have to comply with regs. Why shouldn't the porn industry? Their arguement about freedom of art has run its course because their right has been trampling on the rights of the workers/models.

  4. what it's really about on Authors Guild Sues Google Over Print Program · · Score: 1

Google is pushing for stronger and faster change in information flow. Period. How many times have you wondered "what book/author said x?" With this service you can solve that once and for all. What the Author's Guild is really afraid is a technology being birthed that doesn't exist at this time that would allow a person to easily get the entire book contents and put it in a more readable form. IOW what happend to music. The legal problem with this from the Author's Guild perspective is you can't base a lawsuit on fear of what "might" happen because of something. To do that would be just as stupid as the pony express sueing to stop the invention of the telegraph because it "might" mean the end of their business. (it was actually) So what the Author's Guild did is a pre-emptive strike by using a trumped charge of copyright infringement. This fight has been brewing anyway because it involves everything from fair use and the stupid Mickey Mouse laws which keep anything from going into public domain anymore. Sadly, the objective of what google is doing is harmless and the Author's Guild knows this. This is really about what MIGHT happen in the future with the technology.

Same kind of stupid arguements people make about how "video games are dangerous". Nevermind the far greater number of fights or laziness that comes from Monday Night Football or ABC soap operas. For some reason its supposed to be "normal" to veg out in front of the idiot box (tv) but its not normal to use ones brain via two way communication on a computer. So whenever something happens in the "un normal" culture the "normal" talking heads point fingers and shout "see see..." Reminds me of a few days ago when a co-worker of my wife came to visit and saw my throwing knife targets in the back yard and made a comment in jest saying "oh because everyone has to have one of those". Now it's just a joke yea, but I've heard mock jokes like that crap all my life from the "normal" crowd so to speak. But a month ago when a neighbor down the street went wacky at 2 in the morning and started mowing his lawn and slamming things around who's house did 2 other neighbor gals come too because he was freaking them out? - That's right boys and girls the one who had something more than a TV to use on the weirdo if push came to shove. (cops handled it after I called them. The guy despite his snockered state had enough sense at least left to keep his distance one glance was all it took). Point is, claptrap comments like this article gets made to all counter-culture activities whether its video games, collectible card games, pen paper & dice games, whatever the idiot box doesn't give you basically or the damn nightly news doesn't "approve" of.

    excellent post.

Xandros is actually a very well running distro as well and they make updates a snap. Crossover works best for the Windows Media Player and Quicktime player plugins. A lot of other Windows programs (iTunes comes to mind) fail miserably in Crossover so its best use is the plugins.

Any other programs needed can be found in Xandros networks as linux ones.

To be perfect I think Xandros needs to do what Linspire did by licencing WMP, Quicktime, and dvd codecs and be done with it. Try as we might there's no winning the fight against prop. codecs so this is one area where the pro Linux distros need to just give in and it becomes one of the reasons to buy a pro Distro.
