Also, how does it determine which sites are authoritative in this manner? Is this relevance automated, or are Google employees entering in sites that they see as authoritative on the matter. For that matter, what is their criteria for deeming a site accurate?
Basic research skills
Do not trust one source of information - always corroborate it with another source.
If one website says that the population of Portugal is 10.5 Million and another one says 20.5 Million, then there is obviously an error somewhere. If the second one says 10.1 Million, then you could probably live with the difference.
Of course, how many 'average users' trust everything they read on the internet blindly and would never think to question the information?
That '7 year rule' has been around since biblical times, with many many variations on why it is 7 years, but that is the first time I have ever seen it linked to the life of media. I will add it to my knowledge store.
I'm not sure (but I could be wrong) that any of the Australian banking legislation has a mandatory requirement to destroy records. In 26 years in the records business, I can only recall 2 laws that had a mandatory destruction requirement. Of course, after 26 years, senility might be affecting my recall.
PalmOS didn't even get devices that used *true* filesystems until very recently (instead of the antiquated and outgrown database format, which didn't really support advanced applications).
And I thought that the Windows Future Storage (WinFS) filesystem that was supposed to be included in FogHorn LegHorn LONGHorn was database driven.
Doesn't sound too antiquated to me (assuming that MS can ever get it to work properly).

And rule 1 is Always proofread what you post? :)
Unfortunately, too many people follow the rule as cited by you

According to http://earthtrends.wri.org/pdf_library/country_pro files/Coa_cou_036.pdf Australia's coastline is 66,530 km long. Beats your puny 4,000 mile border by a whole lot.
Not everything is bigger in the USA.

That's OK... I have no personality to mine

I appreciate the lingustic device of juxtaposing 'single hand' and 'porn'

There is every possible chance that it will be posted again soon.
Is not every company on a similar race against time?
Hmmmm, I heard about it in an email I received recently
As opposed to the plastic heads currently on their shoulders?
But are not, actually, smart.
You mean like those crappy American cable tv shows that I have heard about (but, admittedly, never seen for myself, because I am not American)?
Gee, just what we all need.
That will teach me to post something without doing at least some minor research in the future.

I hope they have a few air strips along the way that are long enough for the flyer to land successfully - you know, in case of emergency.

Now, where can I read about my iPod predicting "important" events based on my playlist?
