There's no 64-bit version for Windows or Mac OS X either. Adobe should rightfully be criticized for not having 64-bit support in Flash right now, but Linux users acting like they are the only ones left out of a 64-bit Flash is just ridiculous.

Have you paid attention to how well these teams you listed are actually doing, or are you just grouping the Sharks in there because it's a California city you've never heard of? San Jose (along with Dallas) has become one of the more successful areas the NHL expanded to in the 1990s, both business and support wise. The city of San Jose along with the rest of the Bay Area has practically embraced the team, especially since they moved to the Sharks Tank 14 years ago, and HP Pavillion is regularly at 97+% attendance for Sharks games.

ATi released the specs for their Radeon 9250 chips and older models, so open-source hackers can make our own drivers (it's also the reason why the EXA feature in 7.0 supports ATi cards right now, and not nVidia cards). IMO allowing programmers to make their own open-source drivers with the official specs would be considered a lot more "helpful to Linux" than putting out working but closed-source drivers.

What's wrong with selecting a proprietary solution if I want to, even if there is a free solution? Why force RMS's beliefs on another person if they don't care, or find the closed software able to get their job done? My neighbors use a Windows computer with proprietary software not because they like restrictions, but because it allows them to get what they want done, at a cheap price. They're not programmers, nor do they have the time to be, so software freedom is the last thing on their mind. This also means they can't easily add a feature in free software if it's missing and the maintainer has no plans to add said feature.

"You can't use this because the developer doesn't release it source, use this it's free, it won't get your job done but it's morally right according to the guy I follow, and I know it's the right way because he told me!" is of the same thinking that brought about the Inquisition, slavery and the decimation of the American Indians. People shouldn't be forced to use free software just because you say it's better for them. I'm more of the school of thought that if a person wants to use proprietary software, let them. If they're bothered by the restrictions, they'll eventually find free software anyway. If they find the work they get done with the software is more important that whether or not it's "free as in freedom", let them wallow in the restrictions. Honestly, I find people who try to force changes in others' lifestyles just because they feel the new way is more "moral" or "free" to be disgusting. Just leave people alone, and let them decide for themselves if they want free or propietary software.

Lots and lots of people. MP3 is pretty much a de facto standard for digital music files. Do a search on eMule or any other file-sharing service. Most of the music you'll find in those services is MP3. MP3 has become the word in the mainstream to describe music files, or is at least the one format most commonly associated with them. OGG may be a better technology, but that doesn't take away from the fact that MP3 is more or less another word for "digital music" for years now.

Thank you. I have a knuckleheaded Linux From Scratch-using friend who insists that somehow since Windows users have "learned" to use GUI installers, that they can easily learn how to do what you described on a command line in Linux. He just cannot grasp the idea that not all desktop users can, or want to, compile software, much less know where certain dependencies are located if ./configure can't find them. Don't even ask him about his opinion on GUIs in general.

This is where Autopackage comes in. I love the idea of Autopackage; one package that can be installed on all distros without any trouble, without worrying that Distro X installs GTK in /usr/lib, but Distro Y installs it in /usr/local/lib and having to add some lengthy, hard-to-remember option to ./configure. This makes installing apps on Linux easier, and thus can make Linux more attractive to the less technically-inclined.
