I'm not even talking about the fact that the owner still retains a copy. Infact, if, everytime i downloaded a song, the owner lost his copy, no one would have a problem with downloading music. This isn't a semantic loop hole, it has to do with taking something give to you.
Let me explain. Everytime i download a song, who am i getting it from? Some guy who is saying 'hey everyone, i am allowing you all to have something of mine.' So am i stealing from him? He wouldn't say so. Therefore the issue has nothign to do with obtaining soemthing of someone elses, because it is with consent.
What you are saying is that soemone doesn't infact own a cd if they purchase it and this is quite ludicrous. If that was the case, libraries would have been banned years ago beacuse, essentially, they are a large data warehouse distributing information to everyone without compensating the authors after the initial cost of the material
So where is the issue. The issue arrises of course from teh copying of the material.
What i find intersesting and confusing is, in British Columbia, I am forced to pay a tax on all writabel media that goes towards music companies because tehre is teh assumption i am going to use it for mp3s. Not only is this rediculous (i use my hardrive for a lot of thigns, nto simply to piss off Virgin Records) but it essentially means i have payed for teh right to copy music. Therefore, (provided i'm downlaoding canadian content) i realyl shouldn't feel perturbed about the downloading or sharing of information that i own.
Of course, where i to go to your cmoputer Oracle, and copy all your source code, that would be stealing (even if the code was open source)

  5. But i thought women like sex too... on Linux Credits File Reanimated · · Score: 1

    So women are never desperate
I'd say that if a women loses her virginity it is more a result of either her own desperation, or simply her own desire to do so
Women can be desperate for emotional attachment (as can men) and will use their body to extort a feigned emotional sentiment from a partner. And some women might just want sex (as men most certinally do). The general attitude has been the men are always the sexual initators and that women are the submissive ones yet this attitude is changing as it obviously is not always the case (though, admitidly, the male libido on average, tends to be higher and more influenced by lust)
Lastly, a vast majority of women are having sex with men. And, while some women are with older guys, most young people date people with in a small deviation of age (just because, these are the peopole they are exposed to through school and work). Therefore, either only a slightly higher percentage of women then men, 20 and below will not be virjins, OR there are a few alpha males devirginising the women populace. I think that the second factor is limited.
QED women are desperate too, and men fail to remain extra-virginal by the time they reach young adulthood.
Oh, and women are more social and physically comfortable around each other. Not giong to get into it now but which gender is prone to going to the washroom in pairs...

Well, that's the beauty of Windows. You don't even have to be a idiot user no more. You see, an unpatched copy of XP and a high speed internet connection can get you a backdoor trojan faster then dropping the soap down at the local penitentary.
You see, unpatched windows has exploits and all the script kiddies with porn sites know this. The most common viruses now scan computers on an IP range, find a computer prone to an exploit, and open up shop on your computer.
'What you say!' They could do that just as easily on Linux or a mac. Not quite true. OS X and Linux are both based on Unix which is considerably more stable and secure then windows (for oen thing they handle file premissions a lot better and more securly). Most importantly though, primarily where linux is concerned, there are constantly people updating and improving the linux kernel. These are often the same kinds of people who would take advantages of exploits back in high school and are now turning their knack for finding system weaknesses towards a constructive goal. Open source finds bugs faster (or so time seems to be telling us)
Last and not least, yes most people use Windows. Therefore most viruses are constructed for Windows and most computer illiterate users (many of whom don't even know what spyware or the like is) use it too. So there is saftey in obscurity.
But i beleive enough of the blame can be pinned on what a mess security in windows is and someone pointing that out isn't just a tinfoil hat wearing commie shouting witch at the Big Guy.
'Course in longhorn security is giong to be better. And everything is going to be fully integrated. Some how those two have never gone hand in hand. Only time will tell. But for now I prefer the Unix ideom of 'do one thing, do it well.'

Why become a teacher if you don't get payed well? Up here, in vancouver, thanks to unions, you can get payed just as much to be the shcool janitor AND you save yourself 5 years in college. This of course is two sperate problems rolled into one (skilled workers getting payed to little, unskilled workers getting payed to much) but it essentially means that, you are better off not getting a degree and working as a care aid or janitor, OR getting a degree in a trade or business. So why would you teach? The only people who go into teaching now are idealists who want to make the world a better place and it isn't long before they become jaded by the school system.
We need to give teachers a salary proportional to the work and skill that was required to get the job not just to keep them happy but to attract a wider range of candidates

Happy? I personally am vehmently against aspertaime. I think what is unhealthy about what a lot of people eat is not how many calories the fodo is (though this is a problem) but the processes that went into the creation of teh food.
There is more to health and nutrition then the statistics on the side of a box. I can have a hamburger and fruit juice and still be healthy. What you say? But fruit juice has suger, and hamburgers have fat and carbohydrates. So? you are supposed to eat those things. The problem is, am i eating a quality burger or mcdonalds processsed food.
This isn't to say i don't eat fast food (i'm more of a BK man myself) but, given the option between aspertaime and suger, i choose suger (lord knows there's enough suger and salt in the bread to negate it anyway). Diet pop isn't healthy. And if having a diet pop makes you more inclinde to eat the burger, then, infact, all or nothing is better then more of half. Anyway, insulin levels are dropping, so i'm giogn to stop ranting and go eat some junk food.

Best part, they don't try to be windows at all.
Personally, I use fluxbox and it's a dream. It comes with a couple of x applications (i'm sorry if x-calc is too much bloat for you) but otherwise it's the least imposing interface i have ever had teh good pleasure of useing. Window tabbing, and no damn start bar or menu icons (unless you want to add them) adds to a much cleaner interface.
If you're comfortable using terminal a lot and fiddeling with system files, then why bother with KDE or GNOME. Let those be what they are trying to be, an interface and solution for the average person.
A KDE Lite would be nice though.

It's like walking from a yellow room to another yellow room that is 3 shades off, just frustrating. Now if the room was blue, you wouldn't notice or care. Frankly, I just use fluxbox. The average north american likes mcdonalds. No one knows why. Despite the low quality of food and the fact that just sitting in a mcdonalds, you are getting second hand fat, people still eat there. Maybe it's just the way we where brough up.
But people also like pretebding they are healthy. How many people order diet pop with their quarter pounder. Now salad is just another excuse for people to eat at McDonalds and convince themselves they are healthy. Or even better, atkins burgers (that's right, if you order the same burger, but no bread, you are healthy... umm... NO!)
Salad at McDonalds is just part of the 'i want to get healthy but don't want to do anythign to do it' mentality that's so prevelant in north america and gives birth to dumb ideas like the atkins diet (i mean, who follows the diet of a guy who died of obesity...)

Why? You see, a civic (as with many imports with fancy plastic on the back) is front wheel drive. A spoiler helps a rear wheel car by, at very high speeds, negating rear lift by pushing the car to the ground and increasing traction. Now, in a rear wheel car this is wonderful (my buddy has to put bricks into his T-bird if he wants to reach any decent speed) but in a front wheel drive? that's right, the effects are border line neglegable.
