Entertainment/connectivity systems in cars are either poorly designed, proprietary/incompatible, or both. Plus, if I buy an Apple-enabled car today and upgrade to an Android device two years later, the car then needs an upgrade too. I don't know many people who upgrade their car as frequently as their phone.

  3. Resource Proximity & Browser Limits on Ask Slashdot: What's the Future of Desktop Applications? · · Score: 2

Most any data-driven desktop app can be rebuilt for the web, but the same can't be said the same for apps that depend on local resources outside of a browser's limited environment. Could you ever imagine pro video editing (i.e. Adobe Premiere / After Effects) 100% within Chrome?

  4. Crying Wolf on Pre-Dawn Wireless Emergency Alert Wakes Up NYC · · Score: 2

This has happened at least four times in the last year or so in Atlanta. Amber alerts get treated by many phones as any other emergency alert, and they happen to go out between 1 and 4 am to the entire metro area, so the missing child could be up to 50 miles away. A lot of my friends have turned off emergency alerts completely because of this.

I hear ya... You have to look through the provider's eyes though: What makes more money? Basic, simple cell service that's awesome, or sub-par cell service with overpriced, flashy extras that suckers (a.k.a. most Americans) will want to drool then swoon over?

It's pitiful, I know. But you have to remember that people with technological common sense are a small minority in the US. =(

In my experience, anti-X software has been nothing but a waste of time and money. The majority of users I've seen using anti-X software have still had disastrous problems with their machines. I've also noticed that mainstream "live protection" anti-X software bogs down system resources and does nothing but slow things down.

Personally, I've been browsing "safely" (with Firefox, I might add)... even with a Windows XP machine... and I can't remember the last time I've had a virus or major spyware infection. Not once have I installed anti-X software on any of my machines.

I work for a wedding photography company, and my boss is completely dedicated to 35mm. That's all she will shoot weddings with. Yeah, she has a nice digital camera, but she only uses it for volunteer jobs, etc.

In brief, she can make prints the size of a conference table with lossless quality from 35mm film. Very few, if any, digital cams today can produce prints like that.

  9. Lyrics should be centralized... on Google Launches Google Music · · Score: 2, Insightful

For a while now, lyrics have been a popular search on the internet. From what I've seen, most to all of the lyrics websites contain a bajillion advertisements, spyware, etc., and sometimes I can't find what I want.

I wish Google would index the lyrics in their own database. Then I'll have a common, reliable source of lyrics goodness that doesn't threaten install spyware on my machine.

  10. HTML = simple. on The Future of HTML · · Score: 5, Insightful

I know that as a novice developer, HTML is the more simple web developing language. I was taught HTML freshman year along with everyone in my grade level, and most people picked it up right away. If schools tried to teach php or something to 14 year olds, I'm not exactly sure they'd quite get it.
