This is exactly what people have been saying all along. It is not a good idea to trust the numbers that the machine keeps track of electronically somewhere. Some sort of paper trail is definitely a good idea. Even a simple line printer that sits in the back of the room somewhere, printing a short summary of every cast ballot would work because it provides a paper trail that can be verified by a human. Question is, why aren't other states doing this?
Hopefully at least someone in the xbox hacking community there is already a geek who's built a powerpc-targeted gcc, gdb, and binutils. His soldering iron is already preheated and the oscillascope, eeprom reader and logic probe are powered up. Before him lies a sea of modified hex/torque screwdrivers capable of turning any kind of proprietary screw.
What can I say, Microsoft?
Let the hacking games begin again!
Why don't we make them a new textbook?
Let's just take the Bible and go through it, multiplying every numeric constant by i. Why? Because it's all imaginary.
Seriously though. What happened to America being on the cutting edge of scientific thought? Is this a step back to the Middle Ages? What must the rest of the world think of us?
I actually had the opportunity to be taught religion in school, only it was a separate class that met once a week and had absolutely no connection to the science class. Why can't we do this here?
Indeed, a hybrid is not just an internal combustion engine hooked up to a hydrogen tank. Yet while the power generation process is not the same as combustion, the reaction taking place within a fuel cell also outputs water as a waste product.
As far as I can remember, the reaction goes something like:
2H2 => 4H+ + 4e-
O2 + 4H+ + 4e- => 2H2O
So there's your water
What law are they going to use? "Ooh, I know! Let's use the DMCA! Yeeah! We'll say the Onion is voilating our copyrights by displaying the presidential seal!"
This is sad. Just plain sad. It's funny, actually... only noone is laughing.
Does anyone honestly think the publishers are afraid of Google infringing on the works of writers? Come on, now. The only thing they are concerned with is a decrease in demand for physical printed books due to books being digitized. They want to keep their industry in business, understandable. But stop jumping on the Copyright Infringement Bandwagon to try to control the behavior of others. Enough companies do enough of that already.
So does this mean that I am infringing on their intellectual property by manufacturing proteins and carrying out other biological activities?
Why wait for the legislation? Why not just sue every damn human being on the planet for infringing on patents by using these 'patented genes'? Hell, sue the bacteria, they're by far greater in numbers...
You know the RIAA would do it in their position...
I use MythTV over here and when you pull up the program guide, the currently playing program does, in fact, get resized and shows up in the upper right corner of the screen. Takes a bit of time to bring it up, though.. 2.8Ghz machine but you can still feel it chug.
That is true, but it is a whole lot better than nothing at all. I mean, a program based on TIGER data will not be as accurate as one based on some of the commercial things out there, but it can still be used. Occasionally it will ask you to turn onto a one-way street or onto some pedestrian street, but you can always write an extension which lets you add "corrections" to the existing data. Soon enough, the software should work well for your local area. Then it would be possible for the software to learn average travel time for each road, etc.
If I ever get free time, it would be nice to implement dijkstra's algorithm for another nice program- roadmap - it is much smaller and faster than roadnav, but it does not do autorouting unfortunately.
There is a nice Linux turn-by-turn GPS navigation program called RoadNav (http://roadnav.sf.net./ It uses TIGER data, which it auto downloads, to give you step by step directions. It also gives you satellite image overlays. I am surprised so few people have heard of it.
Yes... this is a common thing. The only real difference, though, is that in the old config files, the keyboard module was called "Keyboard" and in X.org it is called "keyboard". Case sensitive, go figure. I changed that, it worked for me.
No debian though. apt-get a life: error, package 'life' still in testing
Is it just me, or is this written very very strangely? Instead of explaining anything, the article sounds like the inane ramblings of a crazed lunatic. That said, it is difficult to take its contents at face value. Could we get a somewhat more reasonable explaination of this technology, and what it really means for Linux?
Just built it. Yea, it's more lightweight, but don't remove QT3 just yet. The new designer lacks the project manager, code editor, etc. All that's left is the.. designer. While yes, this is more lightweight, etc, the main reason for using Qt over Gtk2 at times was that Qt3 lets you create a working gui app, FAST. I mean, generating the functions for all the signals, etc. Qt4 does not do this anymore. I have no problem with generating all the stuff by hand, but isn't the whole point to "Code less, create more?"
Okay, the fate of the goldfish may be unclear. Is it really revived, or did the electric shock simply cause its muscles to twitch uncontrollably?
But this.. this is just seriously fucked up. And these are the same people who did all that ipod battery stuff. Go figure.
Is it possible for them to slightly modify the device to not fall under this patent. For instance, could they move the charging circuitry (regulator, etc) into the cigarette plug adapter, and then just running the wires up to the iPod connector? Or maybe do something similar with the FM circuitry, though that would be a bit more complex... ?
I can definitely see why companies still want to use Win2k over XP. Windows 2000 is simply better suited for corporate use. It does not have any particularly distracting eye candy (think color blue) and just seems to have the best useful-to-crap features ratio of all the MS operating systems.
I remember when our network was windows-based, I had the servers running 2k, and we just got a couple of P4 machines (when they first came out) preinstalled with XP home. It was a hell of a time getting those things fully working with the rest of the network. We ended up having to downgrade those machines (fun with xp-only drivers there!) because Home edition just wouldn't do what we wanted.. this is say that those copies of Home were just money wasted.
XP just has a bunch of useless stuff built into it that has no place in a corporate environment. Win2k is really the least of the many evils.
Now I have the servers running Linux and even still, XP machines have problems playing nice with the samba shares. Win2k works fine, however. Go figure.
What are the moral consequences of actually terminating a fetus why "may" have some degree of autism? This is almost like selective breeding.
Having a genetic mutation (such as the gene for antibodies to metallothienin) does not necessarily mean automatic autism. One theory suggests that the disorder is caused by a combination of exposure to heavy metals and the body's inability to remove them from the body due to an autoimmune response (the body's immune system attacks the specific class of proteins needed to remove heavy metals from the bloodstream.)
Yeah, I have Asperger syndrome. In 1st thru 5th grade, I was never able to make any sort of social connection with other people. In 6th grade I got the living sh*t beaten out of me for being strange. In 7th grade they diagnosed it, in 8th, 9th, and 10th grade they put me in special program for it. And still now as much as ever (I am in college) coping with it requires a continuous concious effort. Yet, as much as this thing has f*cked up my life, I still prefer being here a little more than not being here.
Okay, so it's PPC based? How soon do people expect to see Linux on this thing? Granted, it will be more difficult to get it running on the 360 than on the original xbox, but still..?

Well, what about EMail?
they've been doing that on Stargate for the past nine seasons
fuel rod guns? Redeemers?

The 3D widget is somewhat cool, though.
