    The problem with that is that you'd have to extract the energy-bearing chemicals from the water (water is a chemical too of course) and that would most likely take more energy than it would yield.

    It may be possible to make them filter feeders and power them with the methane produced by the decay of whatever organic matter they remove from the water. Solar may be a good supplimental power source if they float when they lose power.

    Hmm...

    Most every mineral/element can be found in seawater. Set them up to extract minerals from seawater and "excrete" the minerals in floating pellets.

    Better yet equip them with the capability to build themselves and then harvest them later.

    Of course these would probably have to process millions (perhaps even billions) of tons of seawater in order to produce just one robot fish so the rate at which they double thier population would be very very slow.

    My primary home PC is a Mac Mini, after running a few days Safari often becomes an unusably slow memory hog. Firefox crashes without warning. IE is not an option.

    I've haven't tried Photoshop, so I don't have enough data to do a valid comparison, but the "how to draw a line" question and a few other things (mostly having to do with seemingly inconsistant behavior when trying to insert text) were very frustrating to deal with.

    I was simply trying to be funny by pointing out the unintended implication that all of those vulnerabilities were due to windows.

    It occurs to me that you may be trying to be recursively funny by pretending that you didn't realize what I was trying to do. If so, I applaud your superior sense of humor.

    Windows Laptops have a need to be protected from coffee spills, viruses, and general disk errors.

    Fortunately my Linux laptop is immune to all of those.

    Fortunately there are an infinite amount (in practical terms) of positions in chess so you can simply forget that idea

    Fortunately hard drive space is cheap so he can easily add more as needed.

    If he can build a good local index of the game positions he can even use the Gmail filesystem thingy for free storage. The speed would be rather lethargic though.
