The problem he was addressing was that referring to "intellectual property" is too vague for this discussion. It is like a chemist referring to "stuff".
I was refering to "IP Theft", which restricts it to only the IP that is claimed (regardless of whether or not the claims are legally and/or morally valid) to be owned by some entity.
Yes, it was rather vague, but it was still descriptive. Think of a chemist refering to "acidic stuff".
And yes, while there is a tradeoff between anonymity and speed a reasonable level of both should be possible. A simple to use interface can be created independantly of the other two factors.
It can't be long now that we noticed the lens of the Vorgon sighting device. Are you sure those are galaxies on the other side, and not the twinkling of a charging energy device of a demolition crew?
What's a Vorgon?

Anyway, if you were a subscriber you could see this surely isn't a purchased account, but it's more fun to troll, isn't it?
Just curious, how would a subscriber know that account #38 wasn't purchased on ebay?
Here's your chance to sell me a subscription.
Oh, and eventually even six digit Slashdot IDs will be desireable.
That was my thought as well, but then I realized that they're going to need a LOT of diesel just to keep the lights on.
With modern generator sets diesel can be an economical way to generate electricity. There's at least one company in the Honduras running diesel gensets to sell power back to the grid.
And with modern engines you're not even going to be producing loads of pollution. (Certainly a lot less pollution than it takes to move the ship.)
My question is, what do they do with thier sewage and trash?
Let's just plug the MAKE blog's rss feed into Slashdot directly!
Great Idea!
Don't forget to add Thinksecret and space.com.
A text file with your usernames and passwords slightly obsufucated may work depending on the sort of person you expect to find your thumbdrive.
You can run Openoffice on a thumb drive and save your list of passwords in a encrypted document if you need added security.
This is a forum for discussing technical issues.
You must be new here.
Yes, that was a very nice book.
The math was pretty tough though.
...or you could have been joking and mod'ed wrong :)
That was it, I was joking.
MMMMmmmmm....free karma. B^)
Where the hell do you buy floppy drives for 50? Floppys are about $8 for a generic to $12 if you go for a name brand like Teac.
That's what the Apple Store charges if you want one in your PowerMac.
A great printer is sure to attract a girl.
Thanks for the idea!
I have a link in my sig. If there are illegal images there, should the people who follow the link be subject to prosecution?
The link in your sig is dead, so there's no pr0n there.
...then upload it to an FTP server and let everyone else mirror it.
Yeah, I know it was probably hibernation, I did RTFA of course.
" This is not a troll."
The moderators aparently disagree.
Just because they're on crack doesn't mean they can't be right every once in a while.
Yes, that would have been a better term to use.
Why didn't you just suggest that in the first place?
It's a descriptive term and is useful in this discussion regardless of whether the entity being denoted is real, imaginary, or a legal fiction.
With a few hundred million regular users could this sort of thing compete with search engines?
Or would it just become a handy place that search engines would mine for data?

IP = Intellectual Property

Eh, trackerless P2P won't aid IP theft much. Copyright owners can still track down the folks sharing stuff and shut them down.
The thing that would really blow the lid off would be an anonymous, fast, and simple to use P2P system.

Why would anyone want to run your software after in the future?
Pr0n?

I second that (except maybe the LUG, not all Linux users are wireheads too).
I have never used a droud, but I do know my way around a soldering iron.
Yeah, the average LUG attendee is less likely than a Ham or a robot builder to be able to help but it's better odds than just asking folks at random.
Look for Ham clubs, Robot clubs, heck, even your local LUG could have somebody competant to help you out.
Good Luck!

Maybe BT runs faster with a little whine. B^)
