Probably because you are not a beard wearing Mediteranian. Random searches and such, you know.
And a nice place place would be in your laptop itself. For small things, just put them in the battery department. And for very topsecret things, open the laptop and tape it to the motherboard. Unless they realy are looking for it AND have somebody know how the xray should look like, it will look like a motherboard with some chips on it.
The fact that an amployer can see what you crimes where is in itself a violation of privacy. If you did the time, you should be able to do a job.
Now what could be asked for certain jobs would be some sort of security. What could be asked is a paper that verifies if you got that security level or not. With the unions pretty strict I can assume that in Europe not every job could require the highest level. That would mean that a child molester might not get a job in a kindergaten, but could get a job at a bank. An ex-drugdealer can't get a job as police, but could as waiter.
I know it is funny. What is tragic is that recently we wanted to go to IE8. Some major program we use did not work anymore, while it worked with IE7. When asked if they could solve the issue, the answer was that the program was made for IE6 so we should downgrade to that. What makes it double sad is that that 'advice came from the main IT department.
If he has another child, the pain and the guild and punishment that he has already felt won't change anything. If the gun was illigal, that is an entire seperate situation and should be handled regardless of what happend.
You think that is bad? Wait till they replace 90% of the people with an IVR. Press one if you are sick. Press 2 if you had an accident. Press 3 if you are pregnant. Press 4...
A few buttons pressed and your appendics will be removed instead of your tooth.
I would think that you need as many points as possible. On old maps it won't be a standard disortion. It will be a disortion from point to point. Say you have 5 churches on a line (1 dimension) and on the map it is 1 cm/inch between each church. The real distance could be 1km/mile from A to B. 2 for B to C 1.5 C to D and 0.5 from D to E. Ok, most likely the differences won't be that big, but you should get the idea.
So you can not just say to take A C and E and then calculate B and C. Adding a second dimension will be a bit more complicated to explain, but the idea is the same.
Sure I was at work, just track the phone and you will see that I was at my desk all day.
And even more, I am sure TV shows like CSI will never be the same as people are proven to be at work all the time and thus could NEVER have been anywere else.
Joking aside: I understand why they would do it. People who are snooped upon and treadend to be fired will be more productive. I know because I asked this at work and fired thee first person who did not answer the question to my liking. Although he was the first person anwering the questions in the group, he was also the only one. The rest of the people agreed with me.
Reminds me of a study that showed that watching TV burned less calories then doing nothing. If you do nothing, you will move around more then watching tv. You move around a lot more.
reminds me of the "The Stainless Steel Rat" series of books, where the main character explained that robbing banks was a GOOD thing for all of the following reasons: 1) The police has something to do 2) The newspapers have something to write about 3) People get some excitement in their lives 4) The insurance will cover everything 5) He spends the money and puts it back in the economy
So as long as nobody gets hurt, he does everybody a favour.
People who do not care can select IE. That is part of the great things about choice. You can choose whatever you like, even IE. And if they really don't care, then selecting something else would not matter, because they don't care.
Yeah, because if they stayed away from Microsoft, then they would not have gotten attention from a hedge-fund company. Novell is not trying to sell itself because they are doing something bad, Elliot is trying to buy because they are doing so good.
What I notice of people who type blind with 10 fingers is that if I ask to type in their login and password it is even slower then what I do by pecking. What I often observe with thos people is: Place the fingers correct. Type the password a bit faster then I would. Go to the mouse, drag it to the password set the fingers correct and type in the password, go back to the mouse and click on OK. The time they gain is absolutely lost with the time that gets lost.
And unless you type all the time, the most time I use when sitting in front of a screen is not typing, but thinking about what to type. Even with this message I use more time thinking about what to type then the typing itself. Even during the typing I am thinking what to type, so the total time I would use would not change if I could type faster. I would just move my fingers less of the time.
Was there at any moment a point where it was said that whatever they would do, it would not help or the chances of helping where minimal? And how successful would a recovery be at that moment? Would they be living the same live they did before, or would they be clustered to their bed for the rest of their life?
The chances of success could be a big indicator as well. If you pay $10.000 for treatment and that treatment is 100% it a no-brainer. You go for it. If the success rate is 50% then you might still risk it. If it is 1% success rate, some will still risk it. What if it is 0.001% Then the money factor might become important. If you have it, you pay. At that point people will pay the money for snake oil and it becomes a question if the treatment is really a treatment or just a way to get more money from you and/or do experiments on you.
Each individual will answer those questions differently. If the knowledge would go to the public, I would not have an issue. If the knowledge goes into some patented medicine from some company sueing everybody else who found a cure of what I have, I am not sure. Unfortunately they will say "Either we give you this medicine that might save you live for free and we take your soul or we let you rot."
http://www.aczoom.com/cms/blockhosts/ The advantage is that it does things live. So no log scanning (well, it does the first time, just to see what it can add) and therefore even if several hundred scans are done from the same IP at the same time, you do not need to wait a minute for some cron job to start and read all the adresses again.
As it works with hosts.allow (or deny) you can determine IP addresses that will never fail, so you have always access. You can also determine the amount of times users can try as well as how long you want to block the IP address.
Seems there is a way and much better interface to use http://books.google.com/books?id=qR8DAAAAMBAJ which will point to the first issue. Great using the full-screen ability of your browser and see two pages next to each other.
But all you can do now is do a search. Only then you can select something you found and browse the magazine. It would be nice to be able to go to a certain issue and start browsing. And all they need to do is index the IDs.

One can dream, right?
I am living in Europe, so YMMV. Plenty people I know who have two numbers. Especially those who are commuting in two countries.
I personally use a VoIP service to call international. http://www.backsla.sh/betamax to find out which one might be interested for you.
I just add the number I need to call in front of the 'real' phonenumber and I can call anywhere. Not only from a PC.

Hypocondriacs are sick people.
I hope not as it will disrupt the health care in those countries that actually have healthcare.
It happend to me and I was fine untill they took away my red stapler.

It would be neat to see how disorted the grid would be and where the biggest differences/errors are.
Would it be something like http://im-possible.info/images/articles/escher_printgallery/escher_grid.jpg
or more like http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourke/miscellaneous/cube2cyl/grid_00000.jpg
And will it depend on map maker or period the map was made in or any other reason why this would be happening.
On European maps a lot of todays roads are still the same as the roads the Romans (what did they ever do for us?) made.
And learn where all the inside camera's are as well. However sometimes you might not know.

Management by terror: it is the only option!
As a nerd you are interested in solutions. If you were interested in (only) computers you would be a fanboy, not a nerd.

And it is a very bad analogy as doodleing even increases the attention and is part of the concentration.
