I believe the subject of the article was written as a bet to see how long it would take for the first reference about blackjack and hookers to be posted.
I also do not understand the hate. He is more excentric than dangerous. And a steamengine powerd rocket? I do not care if it moves at all, I want to see that. This is like a person building a house from matches. Sure it won't pass fire inspection, but it is impressive no matter what.
I wish him all the best and even secretly hope it works. Because that would be awesome: a steampunck rocket going to the moon as if it was written by Jules Verne. Who can be against that?
It is a standard Dutch name. Both the "Joost" part as the "van Doorn" part. So I would assume that it is somebody in The Netherlands who used it to make a fake name or at least knowledge of The Netherlands.
To be fair, the people that trusted horses and distrusted cars where not all wrong. Getting home drunk on a horse is no issue. Doing that in a car is a disaster waiting for a disaster. It would also interesting to see a comparison between death per mile between horse and car.
And I am not even talking about the output. Sure, that from the horse smells worse, but I think it might be healthier than what comes out of a car.
I get spam. No idea if it is more or less than what it used to be. But no robocalls since ever. I believe that has to do with how things work in Europe (Belgium in my case) It is forbidden to sell customer data. You can also only send commercial information if you are a customer of a company. The law is a bit vague about when you stop being a customer. e.g. if you bought a car, when will they stop sending stuff without you asking them to stop it, is not really predefined. Just asking to stop will be honored in 99.9% of the cases. The rest will be either standard spam that I already receive or human error where they actually forgot to unsubscribe you.
Then there is the thing about the calls. In Europe the person who call will have to pay, not the person who gets the call (Unless he is outside Europe and has to pay roaming fees). Combine that with the fact that data can not be sold and you end up with only being able to call your own customers that have not yet opted out.
That leaves the calls from the Microsoft Support. They hardly do any cold calling and rely on standard spam and people calling them most of the time.
And even if the company tries to call their customer, people are extremely hesitant to give information.
But then that could also be all just me as I hardly give out my phone. I even ask why they wouild sue it to contact me and I often refuse to give it as I do not see why they need it. And for companies I use the email address like e.g. Slashdot.org@example.com so I know who is sending it.
I have worked at such a company. Police walk in (partly under false pretenses) and ask for some things about a customer. My boss asks me if I know what they want. I tell him in short yes and I am not giving it without a court order. My boss goes to the two officers asks them to walk along and walks them to the front do and tells them that when they come back, we will have the information.
They came back the next day and we handed over the information.
This solved several things. 1) They never came by without a warrant after that 2) We were not liable for breaking privacy laws (Pretty big thing in Europe) by handing over things we should not hand over 3) Their cases (mostly fraud and some child porn) would not be thrown out because of getting information in not the right manner.
A company that does it differently will only screw over themselves. There is nothing to gain when you do.
Number 3. Where I live you sure can tell people they can't sue, but that does not mean they can't sue. They could even sue you for telling them they can't sue. Some places have rights that can not be taken away by a contract. IT needs to realize that people are part of the security issue. Blaming them does not make anything safer.
I have so many logins and passwords that it would be unreasonable to have them all different. So I have 6 1. Most secure for my email as confirmations are send there 2. Most secure for my home logins as my email gets there 3. Very secure for my banks and credit companies 4. Normal secure for companies I buy stuff 5. Low security for all the rest 6. security that depends on the company I work at
Next to that I have my own domain with unlimited aliasses, so for 1 to 4, I use emails in the form of slashdot.org@example.com or bigbank.co.uk@example.net That way I know: 1) If they sell my address or worse, got hacked 2) If they are the ones that send me mail. Easy to filter and I won't fall for a sometimes very good fake email.
"Use a password manager" might be great for many, but not for me who often works on machines that are secure enough, but not my own.
That is you problem right there : "I'd asked for anti-anxiety medication to help me sleep". You already thought you knew what you needed. You already did not trusted the doctors before you went. Self diagnosis ruined your life.
Doctor, It hurst everywhere why I push. - Stop pushing then But when I push here; it hurts. (head); here as well (knee) and here (stomach) and here (leg) - Stop pushing, you have a broken finger.
Reminds me of what one doctor told me about my great-aunt turning 115 and being the oldest in the word at that time: "She got that old despite us [doctors], not thanks to us."
So they give it away for free? It is not about what they charge you. It is not even what they charge in total. It is about them making a profit or not and they are (together with the insurance company).
I do not care that much for faster when you do not notice it.
I have been using Firefox since Netscape 1.0 and there where some things I didn't like along the way. I run Debian 8 on one machine and use Firefox ESR. I installed Debian 9 on another machine and also had Firefox ESR. What I normally do is copy the.mozilla directory and then I am done. Between the two so many plugins that I use did not work and was unable to find a replacement for that I just installed Chromium. The plugins I needed where pretty easy to find.
I had this the last time as well.
So if I already have issues with Firefox ESR, why should I try it with 57? Because it is margenally faster? The seconds I gained I lost in trying to get the plugins to work means It should be a LOT faster.
I looked at them and _saw_ no difference. Loading is also such a minimal part of the process of reading (and many are loaded in tabs I have not yet looked at) that the speed is not important. Compatability is.
My sister has dual citizenship. One from where she was born and one from my fathers side. She never denounced the one fro; where she was born. That would just need a lot of paperwork and why do that? She does not care, the three countries concerned (she lives in another country) do not care.
I live in another country then my nationality and sometimes people if I would not want to change nationalities. ASs they are EU countries, the only thing it would mean that I would need to do paperwork and I would then also be required to vote as that is law in Belgium.
I have no interest in getting up early on Sunday when there is voting, nor would I gain anything by changing nationalities.
I have (besides the voting) identical same rights and duties. I pay the same taxes as a native person. I can go where ever a native person can go. To me nationality is just a piece of paper that I need to have proof of so I can easily cross random lines on earth outside of the Schengen countries.
It is likely the same number of students desire to be educated in the United States as before, but there there are other factors that stand in their way (like having to enter the country through the legal processes).
Indeed. That is one things they found out by looking at her remains. She died from cancer. She already had a breast amputation when she was 99 and no chemo. That made also a lot of difference in the findings as chemo would have altered results. The doctors were against the operation as it would be a risk when she was 99, but she said "I do not care if I die on the (operation) table or in a bed. And take away the other one as well. I won' use it anymore."
All this reminds me that I must upload her birth certificate and a letter from her dad asking the town if he were allowed to hold a goat, so she could get milk.
Why would they be able to speak English? It is not the official language. In fact, there is no official language in the US. There is a bill, but no law for now: https://www.congress.gov/bill/...
I have seen this at several companies. First they have a hire freeze. Then the people who are able to get out. They find jobs elsewhere. Those are the ones with experience.
What you are left with are the people who have no clue or are there to fleece what is left and get undeserved promotions because there is a hire freeze and their N+1 and N+2 have left.
The NSA does not care what anti virus program you use, as long as it is one that is in their pocket. The fact that they claim that the Russians have hacked it is meaningless as it is both unproven and irrelevant. If they have, I will assume they have done so with the others as well.
We are at a time that when the NSA asks not to use something doe not mean that that something is bad, just that they won't benefit if you do.
So what could I not do without? The CD replaced the LP because it had several advantages. It was smaller, better quality (Does not mean you have to like the better quality), contained more contend, no need to turn it over and almost the same price.
So what is the actual advantage of the IoT, besides my phone? The phone is also not a thing that can do only one thing. It is a hand held PC.
Do I actually need light switches that I can turn on the light from where ever I am in the world? How often would I do that after the first month? Do I really need my coffee maker talk to my toaster so they are ready 2:27 minutes I turn off the alarm as it know I need to pee first?
Now I might be convinced I want one by a good marketing company and buy a smart thing that counts my steps, but selling me a bluetooth doorlock after that will be much harder. Not even talking about the security here or privacy, just the usage.
But companies will keep pushing to sell the stuff, because that is what it is about: selling more shit to add to the stuff we already don't need.

And that carbon in mulch over time will turn into coal. If there is enough coal, we can start a new industry around it. Somebody inform Trump.

This has a very biased viewpoint.

They do not need you cookies. Look at Brower Finger Printing.
So then you adjust the search term. That is what I did. I am not looking for sites that have the file. I am looking for the file itself.
