See, Dan Rather is right 95% of the time and it's "disgusting" that people attack him. Bush is right 95% of the time, and by golly, get him the hell out of here.

Its not a question of "right" Bush KNEW that he was wrong and he flat out LIED to the american people, the UN, and the world about Iraq's nuclear weapons programs. Every top nuclear expert and the Department of Energy wrote several reports stating the tubes would not be suitable for centrifuges. The tubes actualy very closly matched the specifications the US uses for its own rockets right down to the same type of aluminum used!

Based on these lies we went to war and over 1000 troops have died.

Flame me if you want, or mod this troll, but when Clinton lied, the only thing on the line was his personal dignity, and the public demanded impeachment!

After reading many posts There seems to be a need for some clarification:

The majority of posts seem to indicate that you need to open the jpg or open an attachment, or use a different browser, or a simple patch to the OS will fix the problem. This is all not true

The problem is the way jpg files are processed. A specific DLL (I forget the name) used by the OS is to blame. If you view an infected jpg file from ANYWHERE, email, attachment, on the web, in a word doc, anywhere, the embedded file will execute and infect your machine.

Thats not the worst part though. Its trying to patch your system. Its not just the OS that processes jpg files. Any microsoft office product has its own versions of the dll. 3rd party software has its own versions. And while they all share the same name, they are not the same file, so it is not just a simple find and replace. This will involve a whole series of patches!

Not to mention local internet providers. Dial up would loose its last few subscribers and broadband providers would need to offer something extra to keep its customers from taking advantage of free internet.

Solar powered cars are not designed for the streets and really should not be on them.

    And hummers were?

Not that its realy the issue, as stated before a small solar car would loose to just about anything. It is interesting to note though that the conversation has evolved to compare the 2 most extreme cases. Hummers get an average of 10 miles to a galon, are the largest vehicle on the road (not countinig comercial or construction vehicles) and were specificly designed for rugged off-road use. Solar cars on the other hand, are designed to fight energy and polution problems. As research continues and more effecient designs emerge it will not be long before they are available to the public. Call it flame bait, and off topic, but truly the solar car has more right to the road then the hummer.

Speaking from expierence, once source code is released there realy is no limit to how many varients we can expect.

Bots in particular have sky rocketed. In the last few months alone we have seen names jump from two letter varients (bot.ay) up to 4! (bot. wrzq) Do the math, its an insane number.

One of the major contributing factors are virus generators! Yes there are programs out there that will write the bot for you!

On the other hand, because they are all variants of the same family, they are fairly easy to keep the AV software up to date to catch even the latest variants early.

  12. Re:Fixing vulnerabilities is GOOD! on Is Finding Security Holes a Good Idea? · · Score: 2, Interesting
In order to fix vulnerabilities, you have to find them. However, as soon as they are found and publicized, some script kiddie exploits them.

I wonder if this model can be reversed. Instead of software companies spending millions to find the vulnerabilities there is a huge body of free labor out there who will do it for you. This would eliminate script kiddies.

Now when a new exploit comes out its a matter of containing it ASAP and plugging the newly found hole. There would be damage, granted, but would it be more than the cost of finding the vulnerabilities?
