  1. Re:Not a merger, how about partnership? on Daring to Dream: Apple & IBM · · Score: 1

I don't have mod points, but if I did I would mod this up.
Many posts here are assuming "marriage"=="merger" or
an outright purchase, which doesn't make alot of
    sense from either company's perspective.
But, some kind of partnership does make sense.
They are already working closely together on the PPC, What about some other possibilities:

IBM-branded iMac, similar to the HP-branded iPod
    License OS X for iSeries/pSeries/whatever (Power5 systems)

    Apple-branded full bigass Power5 servers

  3. EE perspective on How Important is a Well-Known CS Degree? · · Score: 1

Not sure if CS would be similar, but from an EE perspective,
It doesn't seem to matter. It mostly depends on
your experience, how you conduct yourself in the interview,
and the hiring manager's prefrences. Personally,
I got my ECE degree from a large state
university that usually has been ranked around
25th for engineering in that USNews
    survey, for whatever that's worth.
Also, my grades were nowhere near spectacular, but
through some good experience in IT support
and a good interview, I got a job at
a large, very successful corporation and in the last 4 years have had the
chance to work on several high-profile,
fantastically interesting projects, one involving a certain
    groundbreaking upcoming microprocessor
and a very highly ranked supercomputer . .

I think to succeed, you mainly have to prove to
hiring managers that you are genuinely interested
in the work and that you want it more
    than other candidates.

    2. Don't you think OBL would have killed more civilians if he had the chance? Do you get the feeling he was holding back somehow? Considering his goal of removing the US as a superpower and removing our influence from their life, he has failed miserably.
Now consider our actions in Iraq. I could argue that we are trying to accomplish a FAR more difficult task, and we are much closer to our goal the he is to his.

And I'm not sure where you got the 15k figure, I've usually seen much smaller numbers.

off to feed the troll . . .

Bush isn't purposefully killing civilians as his stated goal.
And Bush didn't kill 1000 servicemen-- Iraqi insurgents, foreign fighters, and Sadaam did. Also some friendly fire (Read: accidents) was to blame. And I won't even get into how lack of public support for the troops affected things.
And do you honestly think all of those 100k civilians were innocent Iraqi bystanders? Don't you think its possible that some, possibly even MOST of them were less than friendly combatants?
It's difficult to distuiguish who's who without dog tags, uniforms, etc.

If you want to have a discussion on whether it was a bad idea to go into Iraq, that's one thing, but equating Bush with a terrorist/mass murderer/war criminal doesn't pass the laugh test.
