it was 10baseT, and on campus transfers were pretty fast iirc (the frequent network troubles aside)
i think they're trying to deploy wireless throughout the campus instead of constantly rewiring everything. they spent a lot of money wiring up every room on campus only to see 100basetx get real cheap, and then wireless goes and takes off. oops.
not all universities are connected to i2. even then, that i2 connection is only super-fast to OTHER i2-connected institutions.
for example, the dorms at my old school (URI) could get 300k/sec on a transfer from an NYU dorm. however, the connection from the dorms to the rest of the world was a single T1. no good for 5000 students all sharing files.
(fortunately i lived in a house on the 'academic' network that had 10 t3's shared with other RI colleges)
actually, I believe WAV is identical to the Sound Designer II format (the native format of pro tools), not AIFF. or maybe they're just like FSSDs? I forget.
ANYWAY
AIFFs can be compressed with MACE (and maybe u-law etc.), but usually aren't, becaus MACE sounds like SHIT. Compressed AIFFs are usually called AIFCs anyway.
Why does AOL STILL require custom software when all necessary parts of a PPP connection come with any system? Connecting to AOL and getting all the content I can understand, but...
they have produced zero noteworthy equipment, instead naming their wanky new equipment (that yamaha does better) after their classic machines from the early 80's.
since it's actually the advertiser's money going to the site, i would hold the advertiser responsible. if you buy something from the advertiser, and money from the that sales referral goes to fund the website, then YOUR money has gone to them and thus you are also responsible.
I have never seen this problem. I play audio CDs through my sound card with no problems. Have you tried configuring the cd audio plug in? there should be a mount directory type thing there.
(iirc you want to NOT mount the cd, but still go to/mnt/cdrom)
I was under the impression that Jaguar was investigating a whole bunch of RISC chips.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember reading something in Macworld aloooong time ago.
Basically, Jaguar was supposed to be beyond Macintosh, a business-only type of machine that wasn't even backwards compatible. The case designs were really harsh and geometric.
Maybe it was the PowerPC team that was trying all different RISC architectures with 68k emulators.
Maybe I'm being distracted by the pretty pictures in this book: AppleDesign: the Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group, by Paul Kunkel
I remember an article in MacWorld that detailed each and every problem ASIC on the Macintosh motherboard, which manufacturers were slacking on production.
I remember them not having second sources in many cases. Oops.

like i said, 5000 students. all running napster.
all of them.
not a pretty sight.

i had an idea.
then it vanished.
sorry...

oh who cares, i'm tried of ranting.
"It has an army of programmers and beta testers that MacOS developers simply cannot match."
"Army" implies a cohesive unit with discipline and control. The Linux developer community is perhaps better described as an 'ocean'.
you obviously didn't bother to actually READ my post, did you?

yup, and that's a completely different issue
effectively squelching internet speech? there is no restriction on accessing the website.

This is what PDF, DVI, TeX, etc. are for. Not having the same font or printer settings goes and mangles everything.
Oh really, even the ones that came about before the official release date?
I figured that, but an official document with "assword" in it? PRICELESS.

hey now, there's a reason it's called AIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIX
it's also the bitwise-NOT operator.

you know you've been playing too much crazy taxi when you see a car carrier and feel an intense urge to drive up the ramp and get a BIG TIP!

you keep confusing everyone with your "digital == perfect" thinking. try using "sterile", "exact", or perhaps "numeric" instead.
that must resemble watching a seal bounce a ball on its nose.
IF the artist is sufficiently scared to settle.
