I believe there was a suit about the movie version of Takedown, which delayed its release until 2000.

I don't recall a release of the movie at all, but there's a ton of reviews on IMDb so I must be wrong.

  5. Virtual Boy on Dismal Console Failures · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think the Virtual Boy's biggest flaw was that you had to mess up your neck to play it. A strap to attach it to your head would probably have worked better, and you could have played it in bed.

Some decent software and polygons instead of wireframes would have been nice too.

Yes, obviously somebody needs to point the laser at whatever the bomb is supposed to hit.

There was neat article about F-15E pilots and their laser-pointer friends on the ground in a recent issue of Atlantic Monthly. Well, neat except for glorifying war.

The earliest instance of advertising in a game that I can remember is the NES version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game, which had Pizza Hut signs EVERYWHERE!

In fact, the Foot knocks one billboard down and ambushes you from behind it.

There is NPR which provides mostly excellent programming. If you live in or near a college town, you can probably get a campus radio station. These can be hit-or-miss, but they ARE competition.

You sure about the "spinning off" part?

"However, parent company General Motors (GM: news, chart, profile) said recently it is considering all its options, including spinning off DirecTV, keeping it or inviting other strategic partners."

From CBS MarketWatch, January 22, 2003

Hughes' stock symbol is GMH, and they're often mentioned in GM press releases and earnings reports.

A JVM is not exactly an OS. You can write programs in other languages besides Java that can still be compiled to run on a JVM.

Now the class libraries that make up part of what is called Java could easily be considered part of the OS, and you still kind of need them to do useful things. I assume these are written in Java but i guess I could be wrong on that one.
