Actually they will be pressed and ready at the end of october, and it should take 2-4 weeks for them to be delivered to your doorstep, if you live in North America, according to some Ubuntu devs on their mailing list.

I think you might be dividing the classes too greatly. Why must a hacker not want to get the food on the table, buy a new SUV, and get a holiday week off to a tropical island? Some hackers aren't that different from "the common man", I'd even say most of them aren't. Of course you might be talking about the "common american idiot", but I don't think there are many of even those left...
proportionally, the screen size is perfect considering the distance it will be from your face. Also movies most likely will take up much less space than 700mb as well, considering the lower resolution, and will be definitely small enough for a 4gb hard drive. Concerning the battery life, I think you're thinking of a laptop, since I watched about 4 movies on my zire 71, and still had enough power to use the zire until the end of a 10 hours flight...
a screen, keyboard/mouse, hard drive, and dvd writer costs one thousand dollars? really? hmm, i must've been getting my stuff off the black market cause it's at most half that price
actually 12ms has been available for quite some time from Samsung. check newegg or something
and advertised response time most of the time isn't very accurate
*a week later wheelbarrow gets grabbed by the secret service while drinking his coffee, and ceases to exist.*
i think the US govt. probably doesn't think that what you said will affect them in any way.
lol, catalyst 4.9 crashes my computer, so i'm happily playing Doom 3 at relatively high graphics with catalyst 4.8 , with only a 2500+ and a 9700 pro...
all the athlons have that max? and most likely as the temp goes above 60 degrees celcius the cpu life decreases considereably. In engineering(according to my dad...), anything below 40C is grade A. below 60 is grade B. and below 80 grade C. This seems to apply to processors quite well.
bah, why do you get modded up? argh, i might as well say I have the record of having the longest penis among my friends. Well, it could be false if I actually had any... or seen their penises for that matter.
it only started tripping internal auto-shutoff at 80-85? As far as I know, intel and AMD's processors both officially overheat and die... at around 80 degress celcius, so by the time auto-shutoff seems a bit unnecessary...
i know there's a chance the processor might live, but whats the point of having auto shutoff at 80 degrees celcius? maybe it wasn't auto shutoff, maybe it just stopped operating due to overheating thus reseting the system?
hehe, if you put "the wrong heatsink" (i.e. cat), on your pentium processor, it wouldn't last much long either. But thank god for those amd-only nforce motherboards... I'm sure other motherboards have cpu overheating protection, but can they really beat the nforces:)?
and like someone else stated, if you're running celeron, you obviously don't need that much performance...
hell I'm running an AMD k-6 166mhz at 450mhz with windows xp installed, and 128mb ram. Runs pretty well with all the visual effects enabled, hehehe
do gamers actually buy intel cpus? gamers that know about hardware that is?
I'm a pretty dedicated gamer (it kills me in life hehe) and I always buy AMD for my system, mostly cause I'm only 15 and a barton 2500+ for 80 bux damn easily overclocked to 3200+ provides a shitload of performance relative to the price.
Looking at the other end of the spectrum, where gamners have enough money to buy powerful stuff, they would just buy an athlon 64 or even an FX to power their gaming machines, because I'm pretty sure it's well known those processors do better in games than intel as well...
I guess there's a middle of about 200 dollars where it's probably better to buy an intel processor, but why not just save a bit more and buy an athlon 64 processor anyways?
This is all regarding a new system purchase, cause if you're talking about upgrading a processor on an already a very good motherboard, the gamer doesn't have much of a choice...
So they can get to everybody. An invite isn't something you sign up
for, it is something given to you, current users would give it to
their close friends and relatives, who are prolly not technical users
and know nothing about current tech news and development of something
as bland as a new email service, but thus letting people know of how
good it is, and making sure the word spreads out that much farther.
wow, no wonder google mostly or only employs phd's...
smart aren't they? also, google is still free, and I saw many people
say they would be completely willing to pay for it on slashdot just
because it is pretty much better than any other search engine that is
currently available, and it is so damn fast. But Google doesn't need
to slow down their conquest of the internet market, by doing something
like making their services fee-based, at least not yet. First
something as unimportant as a search engine. then an email service.
next an efficient and elegant messenger with most features you need
and enough userbase from gmail and google to make it the most popular
messenger in the world. then a web browser with all these features
integrated into a slick and resource efficient application, along with
it a security package guarding your internet experience.
then an operating system.
then manufacturing it's own line of computers. most common type at
first, but after maybe making it's own type of a portable computer
system.
sounds like Apple, in the way that it is so popular right now with the
iPods, but only iPods, and the way their products are so elegant and
clean and efficient. ut much less expensive than Apple, currently at
least.
Along the way probably Google will make a bad decision or in one of
the processes I described something better than a Google's product
would be released and would gain popularity and the plan would fall
through. but Google probably isn't stupid enough to create a plan that
isn't fault-tolerant. the course of this plan may take 15, maybe 20
years, and then Google will control humanity and make a cluster of
human brains integrated with computers to find out the meaning of
life?
Oh my god, heh, I just told myself the
answer for this question of why give out invites to current users and
not just have a beta signup or something.

negative experience? do you mean my parents?
and you said you're smart. while the average is stupid, thus you ARE more intelligent than the average. and you're stupid from not realizing what you said.
and now begins the endless cycle
yes, and I believe I'm retarded from watching TV before I was six.
And I need some second opinions on your intelligence there. Tests don't say much. Tests say I'm smart too, but I know better:).
had zire 71, sold it for half of what I bought it for. not enough expandibility but selling it was probably a bad decision on my part, considering I miss the 4 player monopoly I played with friends on it. and ebooks. but that's pretty much it, so seems better to get a more expandable pda.
i dunno why, but that made me laugh so hard... too bad no mod points to justify this treachery
