Yeah, I'm 23 and I remember getting my first 1GB drive when I was a kid and laughing evily at how many games that new drive would hold. I never thought I would need anything more. Now, I have one 250GB drive, two 120GB drives, and several 80GB drives completely full. I'm saving up for a 2TB NAS device. :-P

  6. The Sony Hi-MD Portable Drive (PIT-IN) in Japan on Why Sony Should've Put Its Weight Behind Hi-MD · · Score: 1

They are *trying* to make it a portable drive. It's just only in Japan right now, and a little on the expensive side. However, if the location and price change, this could be pretty awesome. Right now it's cheaper to get a MZ-NH600D off Ebay for around $60, which is what I did. I use it to archive my pictures and important documents. Afterall, magneto-optical disks have an archival life of around 50 years. Disks are pretty cheap, too.

I don't use it for music. I tried, and although I love the sound (I've always loved the sound from my Sony players over the years), I just can't get over the software. SonicStage should die. It should be drag and drop, with no drivers (other than the generic storage driver) or software. If that ever happens, Sony just might start making a profit off these things.

Ps. The MZ-NH600D and the PIT-IN drive (and other Hi-MD players) don't need a driver for removable storage, at least. So that's exactly how I use it.

  9. This is a FEATURE... on Gmail Mis.delivered? · · Score: 3, Informative

Uh, as long as I've had Gmail (a few months since it came out), I have known about this, and it was said to be a FEATURE. You want to know how? Well, I created a filter that sends all email TO: firstlast@gmail.com to a spam label, and this way only people who email first.last@gmail.com (notice the period) will go to my inbox. It's a feature, much like the firstlast+tag@gmail.com. Some sites don't accept the +tag part though. So, in other words, sign up to websites that may spam you by using firstlast@gmail.com and it will be filtered to a spam label (if you set it up that way) but tell your friends your address is first.last@gmail.com. You could also do it vice-versa. Accept email only as firstlast@gmail.com but if an address has first.last@gmail.com, it is then marked as spam. If they "fix" this, I will be quite upset. I've been using it extensively. -Ares

They're very quick to create virus fixes for submissions as well. Just the other day I received yet another AIM virus, and I downloaded it with Firefox, quarantined it, and submitted it. Then in three measily minutes, Symantec had already emailed me back with a fix and a link to their latest RapidRelease definitions which would now detect the virus. Three minutes. Simply amazing!
