Clarification: There's likely more old computer hardware in 3rd world countries than here - not all of them have gotten their computers from Computer Aid International, you know.

Also, I'd imagine that computers in 3rd world countries have a bit of a longer lifetime than here, which also makes using floppies likelier.

The article only discusses one charity and only computers donated by them, not computers bought in-country years ago that still serve a purpose.

I don't know what a .50 BMG is, but I'm guessing it has to be shot from a Tank or Howitzer -- because if a person shot it, then the only amount of crushing you have to experience is the amount they did when they shot you.

.50 is the caliber of the round, 12.7mm or half an inch.
BMG stands for Browning Machine Gun, which is what the ammo was once designed for.

As for serious rounds, there's actual handguns out there that fire .50 cal rounds, so no need for a tank or howitzer.

One of my best concert experiences ever was a Roger Waters concert a few years back. After about an hour or so of mixed Waters and Pink Floyd material he says "We're going to take a 15 minute break now, and then we'll come back and we'll play Dark Side of the Moon".

And they did. The whole album from start to finish. Here's the setlist:
FIRST HALF: In The Flesh, Mother, Set The Controls For the Heart Of The Sun, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Southampton Dock, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Perfect Sense parts 1 and 2, Leaving Beirut, Sheep.
SECOND HALF: Dark Side of the Moon (entire album).
ENCORE: The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, Another Brick In The Wall (Pt 2), Vera, Bring the Boys back Home, Comfortably Numb.

    I claim you are wrong.

    Claim away.

I'm halfway a casual and halfway a hardcore gamer

So you're not a casual gamer, which kind of invalidates your claim.

    Anyway,

I'm not a casual gamer either, more like yourself in fact, but the bulk of MMO subscriptions are filled with people who DON'T want to lose any progress, be it from thieves, robbers, PKers, server crashes, whatever. They'll spend their time in the game happily as long as it's a constant progress.

You're right that it's the grind to get back what was lost that makes the casual gamer not want to put up with losing progress, but I'd wager that even if the grind was lessend, a full-on PvP game will never have the mass appeal of WoW. MMO players in general are quite protective of their shiny pixels and don't like to lose them.
