"So when will they stop being dicks about releasing unpatched, old-school server/rules..."

SOE doesn't care about anything that they don't think will make them quick cash. They're just milking EQ for all that it's worth, releasing 3 expansions a year to get a quick financial boost. EQ2 was far too expensive to produce, and it is a mediocre game with far too few subscribers to break even within the next few years. SOE is an ailing company because of their repeated blunders (PlanetSide, Star Wars: Galaxies, EQ2) and they will continue to try their damnedest to force expansions on their EQ players because it is still, after 6 years, the only product they have that people are willing to pay for.

... but mobile phone gaming is an IMMENSE market. The key is in the subscription model. People will download a game and subscribe, play it once or twice, and forget about it. They never cancel, so they continue to pay $3/month for the game.

I worked on a few cell phone games for SOE when I was working there, and all I have to say is that the sales figures make me want to be a cell phone gaming tycoon. It's not a pipe dream.
