    Screw copying it to another drive. Just dd it to a file.

    Linux can mount the file and pretend ita a hard drive transparently.
    It also makes making duplicates easier.

    Depends on how intelligent they are.

    If they are around our intelligence (+ or - 30 IQ points) then god help us.
    If they are smarter then they would realize that they have a entire uninhabited galaxy to rape and pillage.

    I honestly cannot see how standby can chew significant amounts of power.
    The circuitry is dead simple and very light.

    You sure you dont mean LCDs? CRTs dont use any power to display black.

    Personally I've never seen a CRT display much light when showing black at night.
    Thats comparing my web surfing monitor (white) to my IRC/Konsole monitor (black).

    Private keys are protected with far more secure methods than most other things.
    Thats including credit cards and similar sensitive stuff like that.

    Cacert.org keeps theirs on a secure box who's only connection to the net is a slow serial link.

    The first viruses spread themselves by infecting other files which were then moved by the users.
    That fits the definition.

    Social Engineering attacks cannot be stopped. People are extremely stupid and will do what a popup tells them to do.
    IMHO if someone willingly installs malware on their computer, its their own fault.

    Viruses which spread themselves are much more scary however especially the good ones.

    You read the article I take it?

    Viruses need to self replicate.
    Social Enginnering 'OMG Download this cool app d00dz' doesnt count.

    There arent any easy ways to get a phone to send a virus to another phone.
    The easiest way is Bluetooth or Wifi and then its still a pain in the ass to make it spread.

    With Bluetooth you first need to somehow get another phone to connect to you, without user intervention which is impossible (without flaws in the stack).
    Then you need to send data to the other phone in a way which makes it execute the code. Also basically impossible.

    Whats the chance of Google's code having fundamental bugs like that? Nil.

    Ah the good old 'Its someone else's fault' routine.

    Ever considered that if you were doing the speed limit you would have been able to swerve out of the way or stop?

    An absence of evidence is not evidence.
    In Australia, speeding is a very big problem.
    A car crash involving speeding on the news at least a couple of times a week.
    Heck they even have holiday tallies for Easter, school holidays, Christmas, etc...

    Actually these days its where they have to roll out the least back haul.

    We can assume that in Australia at least, the exchange is in the worst possible place.
    Inner city it doesnt matter too much because the suburb sizes are small enough for ADSL but as you get out a bit it really bites.

    I never saw the point of spares. You cant hot swap them (a small ultra capacitor would help here) so unless your prepared to reboot the laptop, which is a pain in the ass, they are pointless.

    Sure they are good on a long trip without any power and you *need* the laptop but usually its just easier to not use the laptop.
