You could use media that is designed for long term data retention, and it typically kept readable by design of next gen hardware... LTO tapes kept in a controlled environment.
Not everyone has a robotic library backing up their workstation - but even a gen or two older desktop drives are obtainable. Media isn't the cheapest, nor is it great for easy access - but when your CD-Rs fail, and the hard drive you had saved the original AIFF files fails... the LTO tapes are still there.
6 cylinder 2.5/3.0L DOHC were the Duratech engines I was speaking of. Not sure about the 4 - never worked on one.
My 99 'tour lasted 136k miles (95% highway) before I traded it in - luckily, I did not have to replace the water pump. But it was a very common failure... as always, your milage may vary:)
When the pump fails - it starts to freewheel in the housing, causing lower flow of coolant, but not total failure. You'll notice a slower to heat up cabin, warmer engine temp (remember your temp guage will not show a 30-40F swing in temp, they are buffered to prevent false positive dealer visits... so when it starts to run warm on guage - you're cookin' your motor.)
After a while of semi-freewheeling, you'll start to see bits of plastic in the overflow tank... and then eventually - no more pump.
Get a metal impeller replacement and toss it in the trunk, if you don't plan on replacing it now - you may not have a choice one Sunday night when the parts stores are closed or when the closest pump is three states away.:(
If the employees had to go to management to draft this retention plan - then management doesn't care about them in the first place.
This is a calculated slash and consolidate move - it's obvious they're trying to fatten the bottom line. No blame there. But you got to take care of yourself - look for another job now... and see if you can time it with the end of your current.
I was able to adjust my start date on a new job so I could finish up a major project in my old job and leave it in good hands. I didn't want to fark my old employeer, nor the good people I worked with, just because I decided the owner was a tool.
The company I work with now thought that it was commendable and appreciated the effort. Probably in hopes I do the same for them given I would be moving on down the road.
Short of it - find work for you, not work for now.
Ford put plastic water pump impellers in Duratech engines found in Contours, Escapes, and others... a few cents off the cost, and they're MTBF is 40k miles - perfect. Just long enough to get out of warranty, but not long enough to not make money on the repair.
Now look, Dell's paying for it out the arse this quarter because they had to go fix all their Optiplex. Good - they should have paid attention and bought the three cent caps, not the two cent deals.
What would a State Street Halloween be without drunk college students having keg parties, peeing in the lawns, burning couches in the street, smashing store front windows, and then choking on a little teargas and pepper spray?
I mean... shesh - it's like you were expecting a civilized town or something?
I prefer FlexWallet for all of my passwords. I use more than 30 passwords just for systems I am responsible for accessing. It has a desktop app and a pocketpc version that syncs when docked.
Triple encrypted goodness on the database it uses. Now I just have to remember the password for that.
I think you're missing the point. The company's growth has been off the charts and we've added a lot of new people - redesigning our ops center is a necessity for form and function.
Why not make it look good in the process? Oh, and cost is a top priority - that's why I've asked slashdot for ideas. No money in the budget for pricey consultants who will just toss some LCDs on the wall.
Remember this isn't a datacenter - it's an operations center I'm speaking about. Our DC is currently very well taken care of, we just need our Ops center to meet that level.
We all are based on Thinkpad Laptops with 17" secondary LCDs and docking stations.
Oh, and by code there are big red buttons on every exit from the DC (covered with acrylic break away covers)... it kills the power to all racks instantly. Don't even joke about pushing it...
But the difference is that the elevator is a solution to the real problem of having to climb up very long stairways in high-rise buildings. What problem with previous, simpler automated door designs does this door actually solve?
If it cuts down on the air exchange when a door is opened it can cut down on energy usage, indoor air quality, etc.
We really need elevators until we could build tall buildings... at the rate we're farking up the environment, we'll need these doors in the future - so lets perfect them now, eh?
Before discounting this as a joke... think about elevators that people made fun of for centuries because the technology at the time made them deathtraps.
Now we hit a button and rise 40 stories to a cubicle that we WISH had a door on it.:(
Other DSL implimentations interlaced upchannel and downchannel frequencies throughout the allocated spectrum.
My DSL provider can adjust the upstream bandwidth independantly of the downstream to allow the modem to "sync" more solidly - especially helpful because they lease lines from SBC (Satanic Bell Corporation) - so they end up getting the copper pair that turned green a long time ago.
Have ADSL control on the line - but keeping the overall package speeds of a SDSL keeps me happy. 1meg up and down for less than $50/month.
I'm 13kft from the CO - they had to adjust my line to 1Meg down / 768k up to get the signal strong enough.
That, and my service has been out for less than 24 hours in 3 years... This is enough to keep me from switching to higher download speed of cable.
Longer ranges, higher speeds - and the possibility of FTC - bring it on Telcos, we want it!!!
Interesting that it's only sexism when something is said about women. But when women start talking about how much smarter they are than men... that's headline news.
So if you're not going to give me the bandwidth I want - and I know it's technically possible, other places have it. Then 'eff off and let my city give it to me. Supply and demand at the core.
Chances are though - the city will turn yellow and bow to the money, hookers, and lawsuits being tossed at them.
Women especially with technology if they use it enough to get by will claim they're experts
Whoa, reel in the sexism there spanky. I work in a office that has some of the smartest women I've ever met. Level 3 hardcore technowizbang smart women.
Maybe you should work for a company that doesn't look for pants when they're hiring smart people. And dresses for receptionists?
I don't know if I'd like my grandpa to be playing MOHAA... I mean how much more realistic can it get when he dives for cover during the cut scenes and cusses non-stop at the Germans?
If your co-workers are doing anything to your stuff without your permission - then you got other issues. Don't rely on the greed of the RIAA to solve your problems... and in the process f*** it up for the rest of us.
Lazy moron... confront the asshat(s) and tell them to keep their dickbeaters off your stuff. If they continue to "borrow" music off your device - then take it to the next level -
use a audio tool like KISS to generate screeching audio tracks or clips from porn movies or just your coworker's conversations when you're gone. Encode them in MP3 and name them after popular songs.
Leave the bait.
Or my personal favorite - find a dead mp3 player on ebay and rip out the insides. Rewire the recharging connection inside so that it passes 110v or 220v directly to the data i/o port. When your coworkers come by to "borrow" some music they suddenly find their USB ports are toasted. Problem solved.
I'm completely and utterly confused as to its worth and merit. And for me, that's a first here.
You're obviously new here.
A Target security guard stopped Swanberg at a Portland-area store on Nov. 17
And he would have gotten away with it too... if it weren't for those meddling kids and their dog!

Sheriff, do the letters F.O., mean anything to you?
-Bandit, Smokey and the Bandit
Someone passed common sense through this god forsaken state.

Yep, SimCity 1,2,3k, and 4... Civ 1, 2, 3...
And now 4 will be my next additiction without question. Weeks of free time spent civ'ing! I can hardly wait.

Instead of using passive IR sensors... use (gasp) active IR sensors or ultrasonic - like autodoors today use.
:-)
I miss the days of having jump on the mat in front of the grovery store to open the door for my mum.

Sounds like a porn payment service... scratch that one off the list - please!
I'd like to meet this congressman and smack him in the head with a newspaper... and say "Nooooo, bad congressman"
If you still refer to the Internet as "the big blue e" then you can not regulate it.
