  1. Amiga Anywhere on Write Portable Code · · Score: 1

Amiga Anywhere was supposed to create that environment that java wasn't quite able to. You could write a piece of software and have it run on all platforms (PC, Mac, *nix, palm, etc.) but never really went anywhere due to setbacks and poor company management. In the end, I think they just ended up using it to make software for slot machines. :-/

  3. Why not Better Generic Drivers instead? on Should Linux Have a Binary Kernel Driver Layer? · · Score: 1

I think most devices could get away with finely tuned generic drivers.

Heck, back in the day just about everything could get away with generic drivers because they weren't these overcomplicated suites of utilities as they are today.

Printer drivers for example would just send the data to the printer and the printer would print the text/graphics. Now you have all these tools/utilities/diagnostics/etc built right into the so-called driver for tweaking and such but they aren't really nessessary to get the job done.

Let all the extras be their own software (closed or open). Keep the drivers simple, fine tuned, open, and generic. :)

  6. This would be a BIG mistake on Storing Liquid CO2 in the Oceans? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I remember reading an article a few months ago about large amounts of CO2 being trapped under lakes and being released all at once due to being disturbed by an earthquake or some such. Anyways, all of this CO2 came forth and being such a heavy gas, it lingered in the populated area and sufficated whole villages/towns.

If we just bury / submerge the CO2, this could happen all over again. Thus wiping out any life in the area it occurs.

As a side note, if someone out there could find the article I'm referencing and post it, it would be appreciated.

As I said (keyed in) in an earlier post, it doesn't matter how many cell phones there are. You can track how quickly they move from one cell to another, and know if traffic is jammed or not on a specified area of highway

Well, going that route. Wouldn't it look like a traffic jam if a bus full of teens broke down and was pulled over beside the road?

  12. Skewed Results on Using Cell Phones to Track Traffic · · Score: 2, Insightful

I know playing most games with a remote would probably suck.

However, if you could use java and a Blu-Ray burner to make your own Blu-Ray player/PS3 compatible games, that would seriously rock!

If this works, I could easily see Blu-Ray player manufacturers making gamepad style remotes or maybe even gamepad ports for their players for playing java games on them.

This could open up a whole new market for the small developer.

Actually, natural gas is already being used to fuel cars. Out here in Vegas, many taxicabs use natural gas for fuel. I'm not sure where they get it as I haven't seen a commercial fueling station for them but I assume that they have their own fueling areas for when they need to fill up. I also heard that at some point, it might be used for the public buses (CAT) as well.
