I think the problem could be the fact that all of the computer terminals would make these very difficult to build easily.
With current methods, they can put the circuitry between layers of the shell. As well as oxygen tanks and the like. I'm sure that this design would need a more "stable" centre for the Oxygen tanks, and filters etc...
Well, forgetting ATI, the nVidia drivers are solid, and I don't see why you're so adament on them being open. I've created some great 3d renders in OGL code without needing to know the details on the drivers. Also Windows GUI was designed all without knowing exactly what code is in the drivers.
Good documentation is all that's needed, and if you are going to insist on something from the manufacturers being open, how about we get Open standards so the same calls work on all vid cards.
Wait, we have that, it's called OpenGL and standard driver formats.
Well, already The cabs use GPS, at least here in my little corner of the world. While the cars do not have access to the map, it is used at the Dispatch centre to assign fares to the nearest cab.
Exactly, considering the only thing in common between the Radio Series, TV Series, and the book was names and places/ships etc...
The descriptions changed drastically between them. Zaphod Beeblebrox still has 3 arms, Trillian is cute, they have babblefish, and an improbability drive.
MSFT's solution to not be quite as good as third party offerings.
Perhaps you forget, this used to be a third party offering. And the reason MSFT bought them is they were the best at remeoving the spyware, and had the best detection methods.
I was using Giant Antispyware for a few months before MS bought them. And I've seen very few changes (maybe because the Giant Company developers are still working on it.)
If Apple (or Xerox) had patented the GUI, we would still be stuck with DOS!
Probably not. OS/2 would have probably evolved into the (proprietary?) OS of choice for x86 computers. Or perhaps Linux would be the dominant desktop OS for them.
But you could be certain that Apple would be more dominant then they are now. By how much, we'll never know, but with a lack of a single competitor Apples innovations on the desktop would have changed the face drastically. But with proprietary hardware it still would have been difficult to compete. That is, assuming Intel still saw competition from the likes of Cyrix and AMD.
Here's another example of making stats say what you want.
Sure, WINDOWS only had 15 patches in the last year however. IE6 had how many (at least anotehr 18-24), Remote desktop connection on 2k3 Server had 2 security fixes, IIS had about 6 patches....
Need I continue?
Fact is, yes, Windows had 12 updates in a year, but it's components had many more.
And also looking at the time from exploit discovery to fix, not lookin good for them there either.
I kinda like the way we got it setup here in Canada. If you want an education based in theory, understanding of key concepts and the like then go to University. If you want to learn how to do things, get a basic understanding of the "whys" then go to college. Generally the University people understand more, but can do less.
(NOTE: This is an honest true story)
Me and a friend of mine in college made money doing the "practical" assignments for friends from university. They understood the principles of software engineering, but however, could not write a line of code.
Oddly enough, they're the ones that would run the a software project, but wouldn't know how the developers actually made it work.
As I've stated before, whatever OS is the dominant one, is the one that virus writers will explore and find the exploits for. Already Symantec has ported to the Mac platform because of the growth it's realized lately. Virus writers are now beginning to attack it, (although not as much as Windows.)
And already the OSS community has been attacked by spyware. If this vulnerability, done by a JavaScript can effect Firefox on Unix, then any browser can be compromised.
Now, that said, I do believe that MS should not be charging for this software, but if they made one for free then the compition would thin out quite quickly. And a search of Virus Bullitin shows nothing on this company participating in any of there tests.
Imagine sandwitch on iPods.
Ok, so I probably carried this one too far.
Obviously the author doesn't read, or else he would know that
I didn't realize Darryls legs were so short
Exactly.
Did GTA 3 give hime the gun? Put it in his hand? and tell him to shoot the cops?
I don't remember the game telling me to do that.
Next people are gonna say that Dungeons and Dragons causes people to murder others with swords.

Yes, but everyone here assumes that anyone besides Blizzards lawers know what the EULA says.
nothing is unpossible.
Except you're ability to pass english Ralph

BTW: My little corner of the world is Kitchener Ontario area.
Maybe were a little ahead of the time for you yanks. The add in for the Busses and directions to be bus stop sounds kool tho

Yes, but only if you have the source code (eg: you created the program, or a windows only OSS project.)
Having gone to a college that only taught windows based programming, this could be very useful. (No I haven't RTFA'd yet)

I'm saying, instead of forking (pick a distro) yet again, help improve (same distro).
there are how many red hat/fedora forks? debian? Just help improve the one that you like enough to fork instead of making more confusing options.

Link supplied to the symmantec page for NAV - Mac edition. Please read post before making decisions. Also follow links before asking for them.

So, how good can it be?
