They have one, it's called xhtml. Last I heard this was the code used to make web pages appear in any browser.
Now, if only they all could render the same code the same way. Unfortunately nobody seems to write a 100% "standards" compliant render of the every page.
Why haven't they jetisoned the foul beast from Redmond and migrated en mass to the Macintosh or even Linux?
If Mac was the prominant OS then 1337 h4x0rs would be attacking it, and finding holes for virii. Same would be true if linux were the dominant OS.
Script kidies and elite alike attack windows because thier virii will affect more computers that way and they can feel like they've accomplished something.
If Windows and Linux market shares were reversed, people would be saying "Why can't Linux have less virii like windows?"
It gets attacked more because the attacks get seen more. How many Apache servers on *nix have been comprimised? I bet it would be the same percentage as IIS servers on Windows servers. Why? Because attacking a website will get you seen no matter what OS is being run on the server.
And if *nix has no security holes then how come there's always security patches for my Linux computer?
But then it would be released under a modified GPL, not THE GPL. There could be a MSGPL, the LGPL, and others as each company saw fit to change one paragraph or another.
How the hell can you make a living off of coding and giving everyone the ability to compile/install/modify and redistribute with no credit to yourself.
It don't even look good on a resume at most places.
It's too confusing for Joe 6-Pack to be able to decide on a linux distrobution to use. Lets Look at Joe's thoughts.
"I've had to remove even more Viruses and spywares off my computer. I thought that Anti-Norton-Virus was supposed to protect me." (Note, as someone who helps Joe 6pack too often, yes, they call it the anti-norton-virus, instead of NAV)
"What's this Linux thing I read about?" (Followed by a search from one of his pay-per-click toolbars. See's ads to increase his *nix by 3 inches)
"Wow, there's a fedora linux, mandrake linux, debian linux, slackware linux. I don't like the sound of that last one, I think it's made by slackers"
Now deciding to find out what linux is and why there's so many, Joe types "what is linux" into his spyware toolbar and finds...
Linux is a kernel that developers can create the rest of a computer operating system on top of.
Joe now wonders why there's an army officer in his computer, or worse yet, a piece of popcorn. So in confusion he searchis for pr0n from his pr0n only toolbar and forgets about it.
The moral of the story, All these branches of linux are confusing to Joe, and without Joe's support linux can't wipe out M$. So if we can't decide on one, lets reduce it to the big players, then keep a few around for elitist (Such as gentoo) and call it a day.
So I'm guessing you won't use binary only software either. My question is, do you read all the source code to all the programs and drivers you use? If not, you still don't know if they're hiding problems with the hardware, or have hacked routines for quick fixes to problems.
In which case your argument is moot.
And since I'm running nForce2 system, dual boot, I can tell you right now the only problem I have with linux is it doesn't seem to like my raid. And that's NOT an nVidia issue.
However, since they release drivers (that work great) for linux (dunno bout bsd, I don't use it) how is this a problem. Ok, since the NIC is part of the chipset I need to have the drivers before I can get network, no big deal, use a seperate machine and a blank cd.
Odd.... since ATI is upset that there current line of cards (including the x series) won't be compatable, but nVidias OGL based cards will be.... don't make sense unless it's OGL based. (can't find links to hardware sites where I saw this before)

Well... My question is, If D3D is go great, why is MS not supporting it in longhorn? Instead they are using the OpenGL based Avalon architecture. Hmm... seems even M$ saw the error in there ways this time
Basically, if something goes wrong it would take too long to get the server back up as you emerge a new world.
Basically, suppose a security vulnerability is discovered in apache, and you don't want to be comprimised, it would take alot longer to emerge, and compile the new apache version, when you can just install the application.
At least this is why my Linux friends don't use gentoo servers.

The funny quotes, and all these people pretending to know what their talking about.
Since most "news" is reposts, and others have links in the article that are irrelivant, I see no quality in the content.
So a license that allows people to modify source code of a program isn't modifiable.
So it doesn't conform to it's own beliefs of open/modifiable standards.
You missed the question.
If Joes Jewlers down the street install my software and are using it in the office, but they downloaded the free one. How do I get paid?
And not on windows ME (Mistake Edition)
And how does the install or program know it's being used for commercial purposes. And besides, most people don't pay for support, they go to forums.
Next, now serving #42
and prime directives
The year is 2154, we got about 46 more years until the Prime directive was written.
Point taken, but when I was a fledgling geek the first thing I did was typed linux in my search engine, and went to www.linux.org
Then went to distrobutions. And selected mainstream, english, for intel compatible systems. and what happened?
"Distributions matched: 81"
Thats alot of choices for Joe to pick from.
and most Joes only call their "geek" friends when their computers broken, so I don't talk to Jamie anymore... I mean Joe.
I saw the headline and said "no shit."
How the hell can you make a living off of coding and giving everyone the ability to compile/install/modify and redistribute with no credit to yourself.

Yes, but as the grandparent post states.

You expect the links and the article to be related?
You expect too much from the editors.
...and I won't use binary only drivers...

What bothers me, is the slapping of the asses. Don't know what I'm talking about? Watch a football or baseball game.

Where's the problem?
Be a real man, and use a program that doesn't even allow formating, and then use ascii art to make you're headings.
Odd.... since ATI is upset that there current line of cards (including the x series) won't be compatable, but nVidias OGL based cards will be.... don't make sense unless it's OGL based. (can't find links to hardware sites where I saw this before)
All I can say, is that you're not a Geek until you read Hitchikers Guide To the Galaxy a trilogy in 6 parts.
A very good and funny read.

this is almost as making the mobile phone keyboard the standard
yeah. that makes sense... use numbers for letters, and omit 'q' and 'z'.
sounds like something government officials would do
OpenOffice.org, you're favorite linux distro, or help out the guys at www.sf.net with some of the larger projects.
The possabilities are quite endless. (and Legit)
Sorry, I don't install spyware on my computer. (eXeem ships with Cydoor bundled.)
I can't click the OK button :(
