    If the state is to be exptected to pay for a steady stream of oxygen tanks, heart stints and bypasses and the like, then the state is justified in reducing the costs to the taxpayers by reducing their frequency.

    Ach! So the solution is for the state to tell us what to do even more??!? Taking money from people to give other's health care is the problem. Or rather, those who don't pay for it don't care what the costs are. It will never happen because we are too noce but maybe we should stop stinting the hearts of those who abuse their bodies.

    Now I can implement an idea I've had back when the Sim-X and Y-Tycoon games came out... Sim CPA. You too can play in the exciting CPA world. Manage end of the quarter forms for online players in this RTS game. Bonus points for keeping two sets of books and making a little on the side. But don't get caught or you're character will be stuck in virtual jail.

    Not saying it's a hard and fast rule but, generally, when someone says it isn't about the money... it's about the money. And it doesn't have to be money from the defendant. They could be just banking on the publicity.

    Personally, I feel it's people who think the "government" pays for stuff is the problem. It's usually the same folks that happily tell you how much money they got "back" from taxes.

    Donno where I got this but it amused me:

    I understand that Scissors can beat Paper, and I get how Rock can beat Scissors, but there's no way Paper can beat Rock. Paper is supposed to magically "wrap around" Rock, leaving it immobile? Why the hell can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they attempt to take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because paper can't beat anybody and a rock would tear that stuff up in about two seconds. When I play rock/paper/scissors I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, "Oh, I'm sorry I thought paper would protect you."

    Generally, I agree with you. But what about the extra time, money, resources, drivespace, code that can be exploited, etc, etc, etc? Extra fluff wastes all of those even if you turn them off.

    But seriously... I would think this would be an interesting project. Peeps donate cycles and time to looking for ET signals, break factored codes, and any number of medical processing. Why not this? The government, in a this rare case, is putting the stuff out there for anyone to translate but if they just told us what it says, we would question their interpretation.

    Oh yeah... sign my up for that! Well... two out of four ain't bad but Sony needs the console version of the "killer game" like XBox's Halo. Something everyone's been waiting for in HD. And "50 First Dates" ain't even close.

    I RTFA but still ain't clear what they're doing or how it's better than current ways:

    Were the bots in a body and injecting cells? Did they solder parts that we can't do with normal chip manufacture? And I don't even want to know what a robot is doing mounting an atomic force but I'm sure there'll be a newsgroup dedicated to it soon enough. alt.binaries.robots-mounting-atomic-force or something.

    My company was bought out by a much larger corp and our 401k options went from 18 choices to 5 very bland ones. When asked why during a Q&A, HR replied that people get confused with too many options and wont participate. The room erupted with laughter. Since there's so many options for shampoo, are there people too confused to shower??

    That's not to say that more stuff is always better. Especially if it bloats the size, price, chance it will fail. No one want's to pay for features you don't use but saying it will "confuse" people can't possibly be the reason.

    We get this at work and I have to agree. There is nothing more irritating than going to a site to learn, "You are forbidden to access this site due to blah blah blah." Some, less computer aware folks, would panic and call the help desk to appologize and explain it was a mistake.

    I know this thread is dead but, for the record, it irks me that Doctor Who is coming to SciFi. It forced their hand to delay a US DVD release that I was looking forward to and capping or VCRing anything on SciFi is worthless with all their flying ads during shows. Entertainment News

    Does it take a special kind of brain damage to imagine a woman considering getting pregnant to have an abortion to create stem cells if it would save a loved one? I think that's what some have a problem with.

    How about the Little Red Book Draws Government Attention hoax? Where slashdot and Ted Kennedy believed:

    "An unnamed Dartmouth student was visited by Homeland Security for requesting a copy of Mao Zedong's Little Red Book for a class project." From the article: "The student, who was completing a research paper on Communism for Professor Pontbriand's class on fascism and totalitarianism, filled out a form for the request, leaving his name, address, phone number and Social Security number. He was later visited at his parents' home in New Bedford by two agents of the Department of Homeland Security, the professors said."

    when, it turns out,

    "The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth student who claimed he had been visited by agents of the Department of Homeland Security for requesting a book written by Mao Zedung through interlibrary loan has confessed to making up the story. The unnamed senior tearfully admitted to the hoax after UMD history professor Brian Glyn Williams confronted him with inconsistencies in his story at his parents' home December 23, the New Bedford Standard-Times reported December 24."
