Businesses need to realize that cold call telemarketing is a dead business and they really should divert their money and attention

Sorry buddy, but if this were really true then telemarketing would be dead and you would not be receiving calls. People only piss in the wind once. The reality is that there ARE a lot of people that not only accept the telemarketing calls, but they purchase items and fall for the sales tactics, especially the elderly.

Your post is analogous to saying that SPAM is a dead business, and "they" should divert their attention elsewhere.

Free markets really DO work - and if cold calling, telemarketing, and SPAM didn't work, then it wouldn't be around to bother *you*.

It probably is a "pull string go boom" situation for the launch.

HOWEVER... when something goes wrong and manual intervention is required (such as a breakaway), then there are provisions to have the shuttle land at emergency designated airfields. If you are three-sheets to the wind, and you are now forced to execute a procedure that you've never done before, under high stress conditions, then there is going to be a problem.

If you look at all the different emergency landing sites below, you'll see there is a lot of work and split second decisions to be made during launch:

No one can argue against home media servers driving innovation into the household, especially around automation and media management - but to displace software as a service? GoogleApps? I don't even in the slightest see where these two things correlate.

GoogleApps and .MAC (the two examples citied) not only provide value as a collaboration platform, but they are also extremely well designed, and cost effective for the business community. If anyone thinks that I'm going to plunk down 2K on an HP Media Server, and all the sudden declare my independence from Software as Service for the business purposes... well... you get the point - it's utter BS.

  15. As a significant business traveler on FCC Says No to Mobile Phones on Airplane · · Score: 5, Interesting

.. I cannot tell you how elated I am to hear this news.

Nothing amuses me more than the high-end muscle-man salesman that strolls through an airport terminal with a bluetooth device in his hear, extolling the virtues of his latest deal that he closed, how drunk he got the night before, and where he was heading next. All the while strolling like there is something up his but, and his hands are waving in the air like he's swatting flies or something buzzing around his head - maybe it's his arrogance.

But while it is amazing, it is also irritating, and the thought of having to deal with that type of behavior AFTER the door is shut scares the living hell out of me. The only people that might benefit from something like this rule change would be Bose - as I'm sure they would sell 1000's of additional Acoustic Noise Canceling Headphones.

Furthermore, being that you would be 6 miles up in the sky, in an aluminum shielded tube, I cannot even imagine that you would get good coverage from within the airplane. I'm willing to bet that maintaining a call even for just a few minutes would be a hassle. Imagine that beefy salesman screaming into his bluetooth headset "can you hear me... hold one, let me get up and find a better signal" - all the while he's walking up and down the aisle, "Can you hear me NOW?" and holding the phone up to an airplane window in the galley.

Man it would be a disaster. He would either get his ass kicked by someone, or lose the deal because he thought he could hold the con call from the airplane.

Thank You FCC. you did everyone a favor.
