  1. Re:MythTV on TiVo to Drop Lifetime Service Plan · · Score: 1

I am having a similar issue with my PVR-350 remote. It worked on my last install, but not its function is extremely erratic. It "works" - which is to say that about every 4th, 5th, or 10th keypress is detected, but that's about it. Some of the keys don't work at all (the numeral keys in particular), and spit out gibberish when i try to generate a new lircd.conf w/ irrecord. I'm ready to start from scratch (I need to upgrade to 0.19 anyway...). I have found NO documentation for this condition online, but I'm glad to find out I am not the only one to be having such issues!

(And just to keep from being modded down offtopic) Now that I have said all that, I have used friends'/family's Tivos and they have used my MythTV box. Many of them say that my MythTV box is "cool, but I like Tivo better." And I completely understand that because, since I learned on a MythTV box rather than a Tivo, I like MythTV much better. So much so that, even with all the MythTV headaches, I have never once thought about ditching it and getting a Tivo or the Comcast/DirecTV DVR. MythTV all the way.

As they teach in elementary school science, the answer is NOT "10" it's "10 Kelvin." If I recorded an answer - even a correct one - and didn't indicate the units, my science teacher would have written "10 what?" on my paper and marked the entire thing wrong. The unit is everything.

(Besides, the article uses only K and degrees Farenheit.)

The comma in the title is completely unnecessary. It should read "Is computer-created art art?" The way it is written indicates that you're sking someone named Art a question, except that the question that precedes it is not a complete sentence.

Interesting. I hate Revolutions with a violent passion, but I loved Reloaded from start to finish. I thought it was brilliant. It was like the first movie, but with a brilliantly complex plot (by the same token, I found the original Matrix to be brilliant in its simplicity). Still, there were parts of Revolutions that made me really really WANT to like it:

    The cat.
When Trinity takes the Logos (I think) above the clouds, revealing the sun and the sky.
Trinity's death. Keanu's acting in that scene is uncharacteristically good. A long way from Ted "Theodore" Logan, to be sure.
The dude who played Bane. A better Hugo Weaving impersonation you will not see.

For the record, though, I still vehementy deny that the brothers W ever finished the trilogy. Under normal circumstances, I deny the very existence of "The Matrix: Revolutions," even as it sits on my shelf.

What really pisses me off about it is that it makes me like the other two movies less. Well, it doesn't affect my love for The Matrix as much, but it really makes it hard to watch Reloaded.

In other words, the monkeys. If everyone used Macs, yes, THOSE things would be much easier, but then you'd get calls from industrious users who don't use words like "thar" and "intarweb" who want to do real stuff with their computers, thus making technical support a much more rewarding experience. Mod me reduntant (or don't, please), but I have to concur with the other replies thus far. If you are looking for subtle from the Dark Side, then you don't really understand the Star Wars Universe. your choices have always been, as you so aptly put it Sappy Good (e.g. Luke), Cautious but Good (Han Solo), and Cackling Cartoonishly Evil (Palpatine). I mean, come on: Palpatine actually CACKLES! With the exception of Pure Cackling Evil Whose Inner Kernel Of Goodness Can Only Be Seen By The Sappily Good, these are the only choices of character alignment because this is the way that Lucas created this great universe that we love to play in...before he became a "big sellout" I might add.

I also agree with the notion that 5 or 6 hours of play in a game the size of KotOR2 is not enough to make a fair assessment. I mean, I think many of us were pretty annoyed with Taris by the time we boarded the Ebon Hawk and narrowly escaped with our lives, even though we knew we would eventually.

For what it's worth, the one guy I know who has it keeps calling my cel to talk about how great it is, and I neither have the game, nor know this guy that well. In his words, I should go out and buy an XBox and play it now (rather than wait for the PC version) because it's worth it.

    So, enjoy. Or...don't.

First of all, your example is flawed. The issue is that NBC is programming ER to start at 9:59pm (ET). When MythTV sees this, it assumes a conflict because CSI starts at 10pm - BEFORE the first program ends. (If you don't understand the difference between the two, then I will stop wasting my keystrokes.) Whichever program has the higher priority will be recorded. The other will be skiped. Second of all, since I don't "beleive" you, can you explain to the rest of the class how you do this in a one-tuner MythTV box? I have such a setup and I have not found one tweak to make this happen, apart from setting up a manual schedule to record CSI from 9pm until 9:59pm, which I would have to do every week.

(Whether or not ER actually begins at 9:59 every week, I'm not certain. I would be surprised if it actually did. I am of the opinion that this is just some hocus pocus on NBC's part to prevent Tivo-ing. Perhaps I should be fitted for a tinfoil helmet...)

MythTV obviously does TiVo-like functionality, and it does it extraordinarily well, i might add. MythDVD (using Xine for menu support) for DVDs. My whole music collection is in mp3 format anyway, so MythMusic is fine for me.

I used to have the mp3's all on the MythTV box, but once I got my iPod it seemed silly to have a IEEE1394 connection from the iPod to the WindowsXP box, and a piddling 100Mb/s from the XP box to my iTunes folder, which was just NFS-mounted on the MythTV box. So to facilitate speed in synching, I moved the music folder to the XP box and just mounted the iTunes folder from the MythTV box. Works great.

However, just when you think you've completely PWN3D all your friends at the game, you'll come across a question that just boggles the mind. Like, what's the name of the character who Vader speaks to when he first boards the Death Star early in RotJ? and questions about dialogue with mind-boggling specificity.
