  2. internship on Uneducated IT Managers, and How to Deal? · · Score: 1

I'm in an IT internship right now, and my boss is just amazing. He's the most amazing guy i've ever met when it comes to technology. He's clever, knowledgeable, and he handles the user-base very well... the problem is, he gets paid FAR too little for his time, and he's well aware of it. He's just such a good hearted person. Thats what sucks so much about this... i couldn't take a job under him, because the pay for his subordinates would be just far too little (not to say i deserve much of anything... but with as little as he gets paid, i'd get nearly nothing)... its unfortunate that to find a good hardworking guy like that, you've got to take such a small cut in pay... but hell, i'd say its really almost worth it to have such an amazing fellow lead you. The guys getting the big bucks can rattle off their certification list like the alphabet, but experience is where it counts, and they seem to rarely have it... :-(

  6. eh on Microsoft Reverses Stand on Discrimination Bill · · Score: 1

I like to give microsoft as much crap as the next guy, but I can't help but stand up for them on this. Make all the jokes you want -- but they're taking a stance on an issue they believe in, and for once it appears to be something that doesn't have many financial benefits to them (? does it?). *applause* for MS... even as much as I don't like them, I know that normally they're not doing anything that any other skilled capitalist wouldn't do (which is why I'm not a much of a capitalist... but that's another issue entirely). Anyway -- although its a little too late for them to support it now, I still have this much more respect for them now.

  8. those "evil" chinese. on China Bans 50 Games · · Score: 1

Yea, the headline here on Slashdot seems like it tries to make the Chinese into bookburning Nazis. But I dunno, all they're doing is flat out telling people that this is illegal and they're going to stop it. Now, if in a week they turn around and ban a game because it includes Taiwan (im thinking of the right country aren't i?) then yea, they're being jerks. But until then -- we should stop trying to criticize people when they're doing the right thing.

" He doesn't cite any studies, he doesn't seem to have any facts except for crap about his freaking 5 year old." Right... but, isn't that what he's aiming for? To further investigate it. Personally, I feel this is an issue that needs to finally be investigated and put to rest -- who knows, maybe we'll find out women are better at math, and they just have a different way of doing things than whan the "majority" feels is right. We wont really know until someone actually gets the balls to go out and study it and end it. But, I feel this guy isn't the right person to be doing it. Leave it to some scientists.

i think its fine... just because WE think China's rules are harsh and wrong (because we've been fortunate enough to have so many freedoms), that doesn't mean that we should expect everyone else in the world to have them... I commend Google for obeying the laws of the country it works in... heck, the Chinese government could just say "No Google for you!" and then they'd lose 2 billion (?) customers. Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing we just can't dabble with.

  15. Freddy Vs. Jason on What's the Worst Movie You've Ever Seen? · · Score: 1

Freddy Vs. Jason sucked. they took common qualities of movies (like a hero, who falls, then somehow regains himself and saves the day) and repeated them continously throughout this movie... so gimmicky and stupid. the acting was horrible - one minute the naked girl is swimming, the next she's in complete terror... she went from one extreme to the next in a matter of 3 seconds, simply by hearing a cracking stick in the woods.. agh.. this movie was bad.

and consider this... if microsoft is TRULY interested in improving the security of their OS (as they say they are), then they will infact look into other options... personally, im no microsoft fan, but I'll say this - if you're a big computer, and you do something extremely well (which they would say about themselves), you've still got to admit you aren't perfect.. you cant be the "all around guy", and sometimes you've got to fall back on something... firefox is a way to ensure people will continue using microsoft windows in a fairly safe way, and it wont cause them to call tech support every 5 minutes.
